@Sean: Also, you gotta figure a Dazzler movie would be a good vehicle for an existing pop singer looking to get a lead role (for those of you who don’t know, Dazzler was a mutant that was also a famous pop star). That would bring in a lot of female fans, as well as the guys who like superhero films and hot chicks.

Its a good idea. The audience who have no idea who these characters are will still go see the movies if the trailers look good.

Perhaps with lesser known properties there’s less pressure to stay faithful to the original material so that you might get an interesting interpretation that strays from the source material but actually improves upon it. You wouldn’t see this from the high profile properties because of the hue and cry from fans.

Why not, it worked great for the Punisher…well, at least the second Punisher movie…er, I mean, the third Punisher movie…hmmm…

The problem, IMO, is this:
Pretty much only comic book fans want to see a Doctor Strange (for example)movie, however, if said movie lacks quality, even the fans, who they are counting on seeing it, will turn against it, leaving an audience of none.

Now, if they think outside the box and get quality direction/acting, even from lesser knowns, then they might have something.

i’m one of the people that does not know anything about lesser known comic book characters, but they can get me into theaters to watch these movies by giving them to interesting directors/actors to do. That alone would get me into the theater.

This seems like a perfect time to give lesser known, hopefully interesting directors a chance with something.

I actually think a Luke Cage/Iron Fist movie could work in some level. Maybe a Daredevil reboot (what’s the state on that, BTW?). A Dr. Strange movie would be REALLY cool.
