Leonard Nimoy to Retire from Acting

Spock is finally ready to call it quits… at least according to a recent interview in the Toronto Sun. 79-year-old Leonard Nimoy has just finished shooting his final appearance as Dr. William Bell on the TV show Fringe, and he feels that it’s time to go out on a high note. This almost certainly means he will not be making an appearance in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel either.
Nimoy will appear at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend, and also at the Alberta town of Vulcan, both of which could be among his final public appearances. After this, he plans to concentrate on his photography, with an art exhibition coming up in Massachusetts. The man is certainly getting old enough that he should just take it easy and do what he enjoys most in life. He has passed the torch in the Star Trek world, and I think he’s right that this is a good time to retire. He has certainly given us plenty of great work to remember him by. Hey Reed, you’ve only got a day or two to plan that road trip to Vulcan! You better make it happen.
