Rutger Hauer to Star in Hobo with a Shotgun: The Movie

Along with the recent announcement that Robert Rodriguez’ Machete now has a release date of September 3rd, this week we have an update on another Grindhouse trailer that is getting its own movie as well. Hobo with a Shotgun was the one fake trailer to play alongside Planet Terror and Death Proof that was not created by an established director; Canadian filmmakers Jason Eisener, John Davies and Rob Cotterill won the SXSW contest that earned them inclusion in the theatrical release of Grindhouse. Now it appears that they have managed to secure funding for the feature-length version along with a somewhat unlikely star.
According to Ain’t It Cool News, the Hobo with a Shotgun movie starts filming this week, but original star David Brunt will not be reprising his role as the vigilante vagabond. Instead, he will be replaced by the inimitable Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, The Hitcher)! Not a bad trade off, right? Brunt will apparently still appear in the movie as a cop, so that’s good news as well. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more about this project. In case you haven’t seen it, you can check out the original Hobo with a Shotgun trailer after the jump.
