New To Theatres This Weekend: Kick-Ass, Death at a Funeral, The Joneses

Theatres start to get extra crowded this weekend as two more major releases enter the fray against Clash of the Titans, Date Night and How to Train Your Dragon. Kick-Ass is a comic book movie that is heavily hyped for a certain segment of the population, but it remains to be seen if it will be a breakout hit. It has an R-rating working against it, but strong word of mouth could help push it over the edge. Neil LaBute’s remake of Death at a Funeral, on the other hand, is relying on some big names to bring in audiences including Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and Martin Lawrence. In limited release this weekend we also have Banksy’s graffiti and street art documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, The Joneses starring David Duchovny and Demi Moore, and the Oscar-winning foreign film The Secret in their Eyes. What will you be watching this weekend?

  • Death at a Funeral looks horrid. I really hope it’ll bomb.

  • It’s a REMAKE? Good Lord. I agree, it looks horrific. The toilet scene? The Jackie Chan line? *barf*

  • Primal

I’m right there with you guys. Even though I’ll be watching Kick-Ass this weekend, Death at a Funeral will probably come out on top just because of all the stars it has. My guess is 35 million at least this weekend and continue to make bank until Nightmare on Elm Street comes out. But I dunno, it is what it is.

  • Hey, don’t knock it… Roger Ebert gave it 3.5 stars!

Of course, he also gave Date Night 3.5 stars, and Kick-Ass 1 star.

  • Thx for this information. It’s much appreciated! Best regards.
