Percy Jackson To Be the New Spider Man?

loganlermanpeterparker

According to an article on HitFix, Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman is Sony Pictures’ first choice to take over the role of Spider Man / Peter Parker in its upcoming reboot of the franchise. There are other names on the short list (including Anton Yelchin, who I assume would turn it down since he already belongs to a successful franchise), but Lerman’s almost a lock. However, the contract negotiations haven’t even started yet, so this could change at the drop of the hat. The Marc Webb-directed Spider Man, which will feature a more teen-friendly take, is scheduled for a July 3, 2012 release date and should begin production later this year.

I haven’t seen Lerman’s work outside of The Patriot (and he was like 8 so it doesn’t really count), so I don’t know how good or bad of a decision it is, but I am intrigued at the new direction. The Spider Man franchise pretty much shot itself in the foot with the third movie, so it is in need of something new to spice it up… but is making it a teen friendly version the way to go? And more importantly, what do you (yes, YOU!) think about Lerman donning the costume of Spider Man?

  • awesome a better Spiderman yea yeaaaaaaaaaaa

  • James Turnbull

I think Aaron Johnson AKA Kick-Ass would be a good Spider-Man.

Also I have only seen Lerman in 3:10 to Yuma, and he was alright in that.

  • OST

That’s sort of a surprising choice, but as you said, I really haven’t seen much of his work to judge. Its always good to switch things up like you said its so hard to do a third film even if it is Spider Man, the teens will go running to the theater this time!

  • Big Hungry

I am all for a new direction – just like comics do.
I just hope they do less cg than I think they will.

  • Chris

he’s a good choice, but he’ll need a haircut first

  • Ben

Big Hungry… How exactly are they going to do less CG than the Raimi films??? I’m all for using practical fx whenever possible but if there’s one instance where it’s pretty damned unavoidable, Spider-Man would be it

  • Werner

I have no problem with them going for the teenie market. We old farts have the now “classic” versions to go back to and get to see the more rated R stuff in the future.

  • kyriacos

    fuck this shit..

its gonna be as bad as crap as twilight and the percy jackson stuff..

    “I haven’t seen Lerman’s work outside of The Patriot…”

Really? You haven’t seen 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale and Russel Crowe?

Or any of the other semi-promenent films he’s co-stared along side some of the biggest names out there?

You do live a sheltered life, it seems.

He’s a strong young talent with potential.

  • I hate westerns, so I skipped 3:10 to Yuma. I did see Gamer, but I forgot he was even in that, and I doubt that’s something he’d want me to judge him on. I don’t live a sheltered life…I just have weird taste.

And as an update, apparently sources inside Sony are DENYING Lerman even being considered for the role in the first place, so this news item may end up being moot very quickly.

The character is called Spider-MAN not Spider-BOY you twats.
