Sony Cooking Up Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2?

Here’s a little rumour floating around at the moment that really isn’t hard to believe, but still as of yet, remains unconfirmed. According to Pajiba, Sony Animation is gearing up for production on a sequel to their 2009 hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Since the original book also has a sequel called Pickles to Pittsburgh, it is expected that the movie will partly draw its inspiration from this source.

The first movie made $234 million worldwide and was released in 3-D (something that is even more in demand now than it was last year), so a sequel should not come as a surprise. The question is, will directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller return for part two? Last we heard, they were in talks to direct a 21 Jump Street movie, but according to this report, they are attached to the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs sequel as well. I still haven’t seen the first movie, but I’ve heard a lot of praise for it, most of which seems to be credited directly to Lord and Miller’s script. Would you watch a sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs… even if they weren’t involved?

    its a great flick.

I think Lord and Miller’s style though was pretty essential, I’d be suspicous of it without their involvement.

True. I loved the first one, just a sheer joy to look at.

  • I thought the voice cast in Meatballs was especially good. I could have used the writers turning down the zany-energy at times, but it is as close to Dr. Strangelove type humor that animation has gotten to at this point, which puts Cloudy pretty high in my book.

I loved the zany energy, especially the little background jokes. I felt bad for it at the Oscars as I felt it was pretty much shafted.
