Holy Rollers Trailer Starring Jesse Eisenberg

Jesse Eisenberg seems to be showing up in a lot of movies lately, including Adventureland, Zombieland and The Social Network, but despite the endless comparisons to Michael Cera, he hasn’t experienced any backlash or accusations of overexposure… yet. One of the reasons for that may be his ability to land more dramatic roles (like this one in Holy Rollers) and be taken somewhat seriously, something that Michael Cera has yet to do. On the other hand, he hasn’t quite achieved the same level of success as Cera, and most of his roles continue to be limited to smaller indie flicks.

Holy Rollers is the mostly true story of a group of Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn, New York in the late ’90s who were recruited to smuggle ecstasy from Europe to the U.S. When I first read about this movie I thought it would be more of a quirky comedy, but the trailer makes it clear that although there is some humour, it is also fairly dark and gritty. The supporting cast includes Justin Bartha (The Hangover), Ari Graynor (Youth in Revolt, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest fame. Holy Rollers hits select theatres on May 21st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Wow I remember reading about this story a few years back. The film looks interesting and may certainly be worth going to the theaters to check out. Hopefully the reviews are favorable.

By the way the cinematography and overall look of the film reminds me of the 25th hour by Spike Lee. Anyone else getting that vibe?

Bartha looks like he has another hit.If he is not considered to be in the A group of stars,he will be soon.

  • this look very good!
