Micmacs Trailer: From the Director of Amelie

micmacstrailer

It’s been 5 years since Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s last film, A Very Long Engagement was released, and although it wasn’t quite as widely loved as Amelie, it successfully combined his strong visual style with significantly more serious subject matter. His latest film Micmacs, however, appears to be a return to the fantastical whimsy of Amelie, despite the fact that it once again deals with darker issues of war and weapons manufacturers.

Dany Boon stars as Bazil, a young man who is hit in the head by a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting. He survives, but after leaving the hospital he finds himself unemployed until he is taken in by a group of misfits living in a junkyard. From here he plots his revenge on two Parisian arms dealers. The movie premiered at TIFF last year and was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics just prior to the festival. They will give it a limited release on May 28th; check out the full domestic trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • Yes, please.

  • Looks amazing. So visually inventive. I’d give my grandfather’s left nut to see this movie. I just hope it shows somewhere near my shitty city.

I would love to hear what Terry Gilliam thinks of the works of Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Was never into his stuff but i caught a bit of City of Lost Children on the tube of all places and he definitely caught my attention, anyone got ideas for any similar film makers.

  • awesome, one of my favorite directors!

  • drewsifer: Actually, the trailer for City of Lost Children features a blurb by Terry Gilliam, who seemed very impressed. I’m sure he generally admires the work of Jeunet.

Love this director, but wasn’t too fond of either Amelie or A Very Long Engagement.

Delicatessen and City of Lost Children are among my favorite movies of all time…along with 100+others… :)
