The cover of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time brings back strange memories for me. I remember being forced to read it in grade school, probably back around the same time that I read The Chronicles of Narnia series (which makes sense because I went to a Catholic school and the book supposedly has a lot of Christian undertones in it). I can’t recall much about the plot anymore, but at the time I kinda dug the fantasy and sci-fi elements. Now it looks like A Wrinkle in Time is about to follow Narnia to the big screen, and I can’t help but be just a little bit intrigued.

Walden Media head honcho Cary Granat is setting up the film with Disney through his new company Bedrock Studios, and they have hired Jeff Stockwell to write the script. Stockwell’s previous credits include the Walden Media adaptation of Bridge to Terabithia and The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. He may have his work cut out for him with this adaptation, however, as it gets a bit complicated for a kid’s book. The story involves three otherworldly beings named Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which that help transport three kids through the fabric of space and time to rescue their scientist father from The Black Thing on the planet Camazotz. Both the BBC and ABC have made TV movies based on A Wrinkle in Time before, but this would be the first time it gets the feature film treatment.
