Predators Trailer

Following up on the SXSW sneak peek that was released online last weekend, the full theatrical trailer for Predators has finally dropped over on IGN and it looks pretty bad ass. The movie is being produced by Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimrod Antal (Armored, Vacancy, Kontroll). Although I was initially a little worried about how a sequel like this might turn out some 20 years after Predator 2, the franchise looks to be updated while still retaining the machismo, the gore, and the mid-range budget (not to mention the jungle setting).

I was a little unsure about the addition of a Yakuza member to the line-up, but as long as there isn’t some new type of Predator that uses katana blades to fight him I think I’ll be okay with it. Laurence Fishburne and Adrien Brody definitely fit in, and although Topher Grace has a fairly low profile in the trailer I don’t think there’s going to be much of an issue with him either. Danny Trejo adds more than enough grit to make up for any pretty boys in the cast. “Does this look like a team-orientated group of individuals to you?” Predators hits theatres on July 7th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

About time, this will rock your cock off!

  • Niklas

    this looks pretty good

Meh. I like the idea, but…

So, let me get this right…

    Alien : Predator :: Aliens : Predators

  • what is so great about this???!!!! fundamental problem: the Predators are the ultimate hunting / killing being, if their adversary is subconsciously viewed by the audience as outrageously inferior there is no DRAMA. On top of that, you are putting these weaklings on the Predator’s planet?! What worked about the first film is the military crew LOOKED badass and on par with the best humans could offer. Arnold, although fleshy like all fragile humans, subconsciously had a fighting chance in the audiences mind. The cast in this trailer do not convey that they have any chance at all.

This film should have been done this way: near future, genetically enhance Marines that look like something out of Gears of War take on Predators, BOOM!!

  • Dude… Yakuza. Nuff said.

It will be a bit of a different sell without the muscularity of Arnold, Carl Weathers, the Body etc to go up against the Predator. There’s always a difficulty in selling any kind of human versus bad-ass alien story. If the aliens were so bad-ass, the humans would have no chance, hence no story. So there needs to be some chance, some possibility for the humans to survive, if not prevail. The challenge is to make that consistent and plausible. That’s the one thing that was really cool about the original was that Arnold seemed to have to do everything possible to beat the Predator and even in the end he didn’t really beat him, not if you count nuking 30 acres of Central American rain forest. But it looks pretty cool regardless and I’ll certainly watch it.

Also, what was great about the original Predator was that you really didn’t see the thing until the very end. THAT was the scariest part about it. You saw through the Ps heat vision POV and him with his invisibility cloak, but if we just see tons of Predators running around and we ALREADY KNOW what they look like it won’t be as scary.

Still going to see it though.

Do we know if this is going PG-13 or not?

  • Ben

Rodriguez has said it’s definitely R. He also said it’s not going to be shit 3D

  • Tommy

I hope THEIR planet isn’t too similar to Earth’s. Because that would ruin it. May as well say its Earth!

  • Mike

i loved the original Predator, and now this one, actually looks like it will do the original some justice. i will definitely have to check this one out.

  • PlanBFromOuterSpace

I don’t know if it’s said anywhere that it’s THE Predator planet, I was guessing it’s A planet somewhere that just isn’t Earth, basically just a hunting ground. It’d be great if it was actually a particular forest moon that we’re all familiar with…

  • Steve

As long as the Russian guy gets some Jesse Ventura-type lines. “I ain’t got time to bleed”

  • Derek

    “I’ll bleed you…real quite…leave ya here.”
