Megamind Teaser Trailer Starring Will Ferrell

Hey look, Ben Stiller is executive producing his own CG film! It sure seems like an easy way to make a lot of money nowadays. This particular movie went through a number of title and casting changes in its first year of development at DreamWorks; it previously went under the names Master Mind and Oobermind, and at one point Robert Downey Jr. was going to voice the lead role but he was forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Now that the world is finally getting its first glimpse of the film over at Yahoo!, they have settled on the title Megamind and Will Ferrell has stepped into the headlining spot.

The story revolves around an evil genius named Megamind who accidentally kills his arch enemy Metro Man (Brad Pitt). I can’t help but be reminded of the upcoming animated Steve Carell comedy Despicable Me, which also centers on a diabolical bad guy, and, of course The Incredibles. The short teaser trailer somehow manages to make Will Ferrell seem pretty unfunny, possibly because he works best in partially improvised situations and animated films need to be heavily scripted. Granted, the clip is only 45 seconds long, but still… it just feels so typical and uninspired. Tina Fey and Jonah Hill are also providing voices, and it’s being directed by Tom McGrath (Madagascar). Megamind hits theatres on November 5th; you can find the teaser trailer embedded after the jump.

Man, those facial expressions are REALLY fluid. Looks like it can be a potentially funny movie.

Nope, it’s not. We thought we were finally gonna get an original animated movie from Hollywood outside Pixar, and this is that they give us. This time, they don’t even hide the shitty simple pop culture reference. The whole trailer is just that: a stupid reference.
