Police Academy Reboot on the Way

Looks like Steve Guttenberg is finally about to get his wish… a new Police Academy movie is in development. Unfortunately for him, I don’t think he’ll be involved. According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line is in the process of rebooting the series for a new generation, with original producer Paul Maslansky back on board.

“It’s going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.”

What remains to be seen is whether or not the Police Academy name still has the same following that it once had. The movie franchise died out after 7 movies, the first few being R-rated sex comedies before eventually softening up and going PG (followed by an animated series which completed the neutering process). Are you a fan of the Police Academy series? Do you want to see a modern update, or should this stay in the ’80s where it belongs?

  • If it wasn’t for Police Academy 3, 4 and 5 I probaly never would have been interested in film. Nowadays I watch Haneke and the like but PA will always have a place in my heart.

    I loved the original movies and depending on the direction of the reboot I’m all for it.

    Leave it in the 80s. It was good while it lasted. Hollywood, enough with the remakes!! Come up with something original for a change.
