David Slade to Direct Sam Raimi’s The Shadow?

Ever since Sam Raimi dropped out of Spider-Man 4 a month or two ago, there has been a flurry of speculation regarding his next project. Most people expect it to be the feature film adaptation of the popular online game World of Warcraft, but not too long ago there was a report that he might also be interested in directing a new movie based on the 1930s pulp hero The Shadow. This week we have an update on that project courtesy of Latino Review.
Word on the street is that the movie is no longer set up at Sony, and that Sam Raimi has been shopping it around with a potential buyer at 20th Century Fox. Raimi is still attached to produce, however, he apparently now has someone else in mind to direct: David Slade, the man behind Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night, and now The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Raimi was a producer on 30 Days of Night, so he has worked with Slade before, however, I’m not convinced that Slade would be the right guy for the job. Slade has a background in music videos and his films look very slick and flashy. I think The Shadow should be the exact opposite of that, but hey, maybe that’s just me. What do you think, could David Slade deliver a great adaptation of The Shadow, or should Raimi just direct it himself?
