The Flash Movie May Have a New Director

Now that things are moving forward with Green Lantern, and the next Superman movie is finally showing signs of life, Warner Brothers are also apparently turning their attention to a big screen version of The Flash as well. After previously changing hands from director David Goyer (Blade: Trinity) to Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) to David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), The Flash movie seemed to have fizzled out by late last year. This week, however, IESB is reporting that someone new has finally been assigned to the project, and is looking likely to take over directorial duties as well.
According to their sources, Greg Berlanti is currently the frontrunner to helm The Flash — the same guy who co-wrote the Green Lantern script and previously worked on such TV shows as Everwood and Eli Stone. It certainly seems that the WB likes to re-use talent, particularly in the case of filmmakers they have developed a strong working relationship with. Perhaps this will help create some harmony between their superhero franchises, similar to Marvel, although in the case of Berlanti, his directing experience is somewhat limited (his credits include The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy and the upcoming comedy Life As We Know It). It’s interesting that most of the people attached to The Flash up until now have been known primarily for directing comedies. Do you think Berlanti is the right guy to direct The Flash? Is he at least better than Shawn Levy or David Dobkin?
