Zoolander 2 Moving Forward with Tropic Thunder Writer

There have been rumblings that Ben Stiller might drop a Zoolander sequel on us for a few years now, but in the words of Derek Zoolander himself, “You gotta tame the beast before you let it out of its cage.” The original didn’t do all that well when it hit theatres back in 2001 (it made just $60 million worldwide), but it did mark the first big screen collaboration between several members of what would soon be called The Frat Pack, who have since become even bigger stars. Now, according to Nikki Finke, the wheels are finally in motion for Zoolander 2, and Ben Stiller is re-teaming with Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux, who will also direct. Theroux is even heading to Fashion Week in Paris for inspiration.
There’s no word yet on whether or not Owen Wilson will reprise his role as Hansel, but Jonah Hill is reportedly in talks to play the villain (is there a comedy in development right now that he’s NOT involved in?). I remember being pretty disappointed with the Zoolander back when I saw it in theatres, but I have since rewatched it on TV and I was surprised at how well it holds up. I actually think this could be a sequel that might improve on its predecessor, except for the fact that Sacha Baron Cohen and Bruno may have already stuck it to the fashion world better than Zoolander ever could. How do you feel about the original Zoolander? Is a sequel something you’d like to see?
