Weekly Poll Results: Best Leonardo DiCaprio Movie

pollresultsbestdicaprio

With the release of Shutter Island last week, we put you to the task of reviewing Leonardo DiCaprio’s filmography and picking the best of the bunch. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what movie would come out on top, especially since he’s been in so many solid flicks. In retrospect, I guess it’s pretty obvious that so many people would vote for The Departed. It received over 40% of the votes, while Catch Me If You Can was a distant second, followed by What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?. Titanic was shockingly low on the list, however (even lower than Romeo + Juliet), and I don’t think The Basketball Diaries got a fair shake either. Do you agree with the results? If you’ve seen it, where would Shutter Island place on the list?

1. The Departed — 40.1%
2. Catch Me If You Can — 13.6%
3. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? — 9.1%
4. The Aviator — 8.7%
5. Blood Diamond — 8.5%
6. Gangs of New York — 7%
7. Romeo + Juliet — 3.9%
8. Titanic — 3.7%
9. The Basketball Diaries — 3.3%
10. Revolutionary Road — 2.1%

I liked parts of Shutter Island, like the atmosphere and performances, but I felt the film’s internal logic was flawed and the ending was needless and dragged out. Probably above Blood Diamond at 4.

Wow, really? I can’t wrap my head around this poll. I think Departed is highly overrated and I never got it but clearly a ridiculous amount of people here did. Kudos.

I think this would have turned out a lot differently if people had of rank them instead of just picking their favourite one.

  • Kyriacos

    Can’t wait for Inception..
I usually don’t like actors but i think Di C. is a good reason to brake my rule..

    (Still don’t like women though)

    Sean, Cristian bale VS DiCaprio?

Although T. salvation was a misfire for bale i still like him a lot. He has that rare Deniro – Al pacino quality to portray characters that are both good and evil at the same time..

But then Again D.C has better movies…

    well ..Thats a tough one..

  • Henrik

    This list seems oddly correct.

Not a big fan of his overacting, but The Departed was a good movie.

  • Alex

Really? Nobody liked Revolutionary Road? I probably would have put that third or fourth.

  • Marc

I thought he was great in The Aviator and would have put that higher than catch me if you can.

  • Jean

I wonder why The Man in the Iron Mask is not part of the list. It’s my top 2. Titanic for me is No. 1. I like Leo. He’s got an appealing nose. More power Leo!

  • Sean C.

Man in the Iron Mask number 2, Jean? Are you kidding? DiCaprio’s first films can’t even hold a candle to what he does now. Guy is an absolute beast and one of the best actors out there. How he hasn’t gotten an Oscar yet is beyond me. Especially when you have movies like The Departed and Catch Me If You Can in your repertoire. Can’t wait for Inception.

Also, I’m not surprised The Departed is first, but I expected a closer margin between that and Catch Me If You Can.

  • “DiCaprio’s first films can’t even hold a candle to what he does now.”

Haven’t seen Shutter’s Island yet, but I would take Romeo + Juliet, Gilbert Grape, and maybe Basketball Diaries over the deadly earnest performances in deadly earnest films he does now, Catch Me If You can excepted.
The popular crit of DiCaprio that you can ‘see him acting’ is one I’d go along with. The stiffness he brings to his roles makes me wonder just why Marty considers him a fit replacement for DeNiro – a very naturalistic actor. The best of his kind, arguably.

Shutter Island is a great movie. And this, so far is Leo’s best performance. I like his emotions; he’s good in bringing out emotions. He is one of the best actors. He deserves an award for this movie.

  • Brooke :)

I am completly in love with Leo, all his movies are amazing. He is, by far, the best actor of our time. All his movies are amazing, so i can never pick a favorite.

I agree with you David M. After watching his movies, what you will remember would be the character that he had portrayed. A natural born talent, that’s how I describe my favorite actor.

I like him and he is really amazing. I am so excited to see him once again in the big screen. I wonder what movie would that be.
