Bad News for Superman Reboot: David Goyer to Pen The Man of Steel?

Less than a week after Warner Brothers denied reports of Christopher Nolan overseeing a new Superman movie, we now have another scoop that would seem to further support evidence of his involvement. According to a tipster over at Latino Review, the next Superman movie now has a writer attached, and his name is David S. Goyer — the very same David S. Goyer who co-wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight with Chris Nolan.
Now, a couple of weeks earlier we heard that Goyer would also be collaborating on a script for a third Batman movie with Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonah, and at the time, I voiced my uncertainty about Goyer’s writing skills. If he is indeed writing the screenplay for Superman, then it probably means that he will be more hands off for the next Batman flick, which makes me happy. On the other hand, it means that I am now a little bit less interested in the Superman movie… so be it.
Latino Review also found out a few other tidbits about the proposed reboot. Taking a cue from The Dark Knight, apparently it will be called simply The Man of Steel and it will not be an origin story. The rumoured villains for the script are Lex Luthor and Brainiac. Brandon Routh will not star, and Bryan Singer will probably not direct. Any other questions? I’m not sure how seriously to take all these extra details, but at the very least, Goyer and Nolan seem to be on the project, which should inspire confidence in many fans. Personally I’m going to reserve judgment until we find out who might direct this flick. So what do you think, can Goyer come up with a better script than Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris did for Superman Returns?
