Last week we posted a poll question asking people to choose Judd Apatow’s finest work to date, and although we limited the options to his feature films, some readers still pointed out that his TV series Freaks & Geeks is actually the best thing he’s ever done… and I would probably agree. The thing is, Freaks & Geeks wasn’t just an Apatow production; its brilliance was equally due to the genius of creator Paul Feig. The two also worked together again on Undeclared in 2002, but since then they have gone their separate ways.
Here’s the good news: it looks like Apatow and Feig will be re-uniting again in the near future on a new feature film project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feig has signed on to direct a currently untitled wedding comedy starring Kristen Wiig for Universal, with Judd Apatow acting as producer. The screenplay is about two women battling to plan their friend’s wedding party, and although it sounds like another lame Bride Wars clone, Wiig wrote the script herself with actress Annie Mumolo. Feig has mostly been directing TV for the past decade (including 13 episodes of The Office), but his big screen projects haven’t been that well-received (I Am David, Unaccompanied Minors). Hopefully this gets him back on track and helps him reclaim his rightful place as part of the Apatow posse.
