Toy Story 3 Trailer #2

toystory3trailer

Brace yourselves, Pixar fans… the latest trailer for Toy Story 3 has arrived online, and it is a beaut. Pixar may have run the whole “inanimate objects come to life” concept into the ground over the past decade, but Toy Story was the original and I have no problem revisiting these characters for a third time. I’m looking forward to seeing what kinds of creative adventures they have in store this time, as Andy goes off to college and his toys get donated to a day-care center.

It looks like there are plenty of new characters being added to the mix, which I suppose is kind of expected for a sequel. It’s a bit weird to see so many actual brand name toys included (the Barbie and Ken stuff in particular seems like it might be going in more of a Shrek pop culture-y direction), but I suppose they’ve always had Mr. Potato Head and he’s definitely one of the more memorable characters. Are you looking forward to Toy Story 3, or is this a step down from critically acclaimed films like Wall-E and Up? Watch the trailer after the jump, or see it in HD over at Apple.com. Toy Story 3 hits theatres on June 18th.

  • Goon

did i just hear Kristen Schaal (Mel from FOTC) as the dinosaur?

  • I believe you did.

  • Kurt

Pixar always has a great sense for voice casting. Schaal is awesome.

But the trailer is rather underwhelming.

  • Niklas

there is something really boring about pixar re-visiting old characters.. guess Im spoiled!

  • Looks interesting enough.

  • kurt

I think Niklas hit the nail on the head. Less sequels, more original stories and characters. I seriously hope Brad Bird has something on the go for Pixar, he seems to do Pixar better than the companies own founders.

  • swarez

I’ve enjoyed Pixar movies less and less ever since Cars came out.
And I’m not particularly impressed with this trailer but I’ll wait and see.

  • Am I the only one who thinks this movie has a weird look to it? (cinematography wise… even though it is a CG movie ;P) But yeah i’m afraid after the tear jerkers Up and Wall-E, this ones gonna hit me hard, i mean I grew up with the original and this movies coming out right around the time i’m Andy’s current age. It’s fucked!

  • @ Kurt

“I seriously hope Brad Bird has something on the go for Pixar, he seems to do Pixar better than the companies own founders.”

I actually kind of agree, i mean look at John Lasater’s directorial contribution’s since the original Toy Story, A Bug’s Life? Cars? And despite Toy Story 2 being good… it’s still a sequel. I think he’s simply past his prime. And maybe he even knows that. I mean he’s not back to direct this one, and he brought Brad Bird into the company who WASN’T a Pixar guy. He probably just saw that his company needed new talent, a second generation, to keep it living on into the future.

  • Btw Sean, Barbie was in the second one along with other Brand Name characters.

  • Kyriacos

    ok.
A Cgi animated movie takes at-least about 3.5 years to be prepared and created.

Disney bought up Pixar in 2006

Up until then Disney used to be just the distributor.

*Back in 1999 Disney wanted to release Toystory2 direct on DVD only- While pixar insisted it had a wider release.

Ratatouille, WALL-E and Up were basically 100% pixar movies since they were prepared and scheduled before Disney.

If you take a closer look on all the Pixar movies you will notice that they are basically all directed by the same group of people:
    John Lasseter
    Andrew Stanton
    Brad Bird
    Pete Docter

Toy story 3 is probably the first 100% Disney-Pixar movie we are going to see..
It is directed only by Lee Unkrich (who worked as co-director in Toystory2)

Follow up next is ”Cars 2” directed by a first time director named Brad lewis
Then is ”The Bear and the Bow” directed by a DISNEY director named Brenda Chapman who directed ”The Prince of Egypt” (1998)
and then ”Newt” directed by some guy called Gary Rydstrom

So is disney going to wreck Pixar?
i guess we will find out soon..
