I really loved the cartoon and I did enjoy this trailer. Some thoughts

1) Aang actually resembles Aang. I’ll have no more of this “he’s not asian” crap. He’s small pale kid with an arrow on his head, he’s fine.

2) On that note. While all the protagonists are now lily white (including the dark eskimo Water Tribe), the evil Fire Nation is still ethnic. Hell yeah. Probably the most black/white cast choice since they redubbed the original Star Wars rebels into Americans, forever now associating British accents as villains.

3) The action sequences look great! The bending arts look pretty realistic and the battleship thing at the end looked great.

4) They changed the name from Avatar: TLA to simply “The Last Airbender” for obvious reasons. An unfortunate side effect is that the show was renamed “Avatar: The Legend of Aang” for the UK market because ‘bender’ is a slang term for homosexual. Now they’re sort of stuck with the movie title. Heh.

I’m excited for this for a number of reasons. One, the cartoon is awesome. Like, had it been on when I was a kid, I would never have paid attention to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. At all. Second, I still love M. Night even if his last couple of films haven’t been his best. Nothing will ever make me forget about Unbreakable. I think it will also be good for the man to do something not in his usual genre and not something entirely of his own construction. I hope he nails it.

I have to say, this has moved up to be my most anticipated movie of 2010.. Closely followed by Inception and Tron

this looks kind of like a boring CGI party to me but who knows? I have a feeling I will hate all the characters for some reason

I feel like this could make people like Shyamalan again, as long as he doesn’t rape the source material too hard.

This will surely make an assload of money and have a “Book 2″ whether we like it or not.

He created the movie though. And maybe he has fucked with the source material in such a degree that people will automatically refer to this as Shyamalan’s Airbender.

Other than that, it’s just a movie tradition. John Carpenter called his version of The Thing John Carpenter’s The Thing too.

Just wondering, how can M. Night put his name on the title claiming “M.Night’s The Last Airbender” if it comes from already existing anime? Unless he created the source material, which he didn’t.

I can’t wait to see this!! I cant wait!!! That being said I wish James Cameron would have taken this project on, I think he would have done a far more amazing job making everything look real and alive. One thing I don’t like is the background music they put and also that first fire bender seen, they remind me of the live action movie of Dragon Ball-z. Which was a big flop. Oh and there is an uncle Iroh in the live action film, its just that he is not fat like in the animations series.
