World’s First 3D Porn Planned by Caligula Director

Pornography, the gift that keeps on giving, will finally be brought into 3D if Caligula director Tinto Brass has his way. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is currently in the pre-production stages of a 3D erotic film, Italy’s first 3D film of any type, saying that the “time is right” for a film of this genre to be put into the third dimension.

To be completely honest, and alienate any female readers this website might have, this is officially the coolest idea in the history of mankind. I have never seen Caligula but I’ve heard stories and if this makes it stateside, I will definitely check this one out. I just feel bad for the ushers of whatever theater this ends up in… they are going to need a lot of paper towels. 3D porn? Are you in or out?

  • why would anyone assume this will be in a theatre; are you guys that naive?! there are like 3 US cities that might, I say might, have a theater venue that will show this. no regular corp. owned theater chain with digital projection is going to show this – it makes no business sense. too few customers vs. to much community backlash.

    this will be for new home tech. on your HD, 3D enhanced flat screens – cpu, tv and eventually one seamless system.

  • Wintle is right. There were loads of 3D porn movies back in the 70s. Hard Candy (1976) is one of the best known. It starred John Holmes, who was kind of built for 3D…although there are plenty of things I would prefer to have sticking in my face than his schlong. There were even three hardcore gay porn movies made in 3D – Ram Rod (1973), Manhole (1978) (from the director of I Drink Your Blood (1970)) and Heavy Equipment (1977) (from the director of Hell Night (1981)).

    Of course those were in more primitive forms of 3D which didn’t need special screens and projectors like RealD, so they could do the rounds of the ordinary grindhouses.

    Have any of Tinto Brass’s films since Caligula had a theatrical release in the U.S.? I think they do quite well in Europe, but I think that only Caligula and Salon Kitty have been big successes in English-language marketsl

  • An “erotic” film is pretty different from a porno title. I could see this getting released into most 3D theaters if it can get an R rating. You could call a film like Eyes Wide Shut erotic, but its totally not porn. I look forward to seeing much more mature films taking advantage of 3D technology in the future.

    There have been plenty of 3D porn already. Many recent ones as well. Plus Gasbar Noe, director of Enter the Void and Irreversible is already planing to do a 3D porn film, he beat Tinto Brass to the punch.

    From what I remember hearing about Caligula…I doubt it’s in the same vein as Eyes Wide Shut-type erotic. I’m just intrigued on the whole Real-D thing…but I doubt it’ll get released in the U.S. when the kids/slasher market completely has 3D by the balls.
