Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer Trailer

ghostwritertrailer

The full domestic trailer for Roman Polanski’s next film The Ghost Writer has arrived online this week, and appears to be on track for its February release date even as its director remains under house arrest in Switzerland. Based on the Robert Harris novel The Ghost, the movie stars Ewan McGregor as a writer who is hired to anonymously complete the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan). Along the way, however, Lang is accused of war crimes and the writer starts to suspect that there are some dark secrets lurking beneath the surface… which might also explain why the previous ghost writer mysteriously died.

Polanski’s output has been fairly sporadic over the past couple of decades, and although I didn’t see his last film Oliver Twist, I think a lot of us can agree that The Pianist was pretty awesome. However, thrillers have been historically some of Polanski’s strongest work, and I’m interested to see what he can do in a more modern scenario. It’s unclear if his arrest will alter how this movie is received, but it certainly seems to have helped generate publicity for it. Check out the trailer in HD over at Apple.com, or watch it after the jump and let us know what you think. The Ghost Writer opens in New York and L.A. on February 19th, and expands to select theatres on February 26th.

I read this book actually…and if they stick to the plot of it its underwhelming. not the greatest book ill tell you that. gets way too convoluted and the ending is just plain terrible. if they stick to that ending then man…and im polish so i want this to work (go polanski!) but if it takes the source material seriously then it wont be great. although i do admit the first half of the book had me hooked but the rest of it veered off track. well…ill still check it out just to be patriotic :)

Hehe, go polanski.Polish or not Polanski is one of the greates movie directors ever. And one of few director legends still around, making movies. You know, its Polanski, can’t be bad. Check out Polanskis films from the 60’s, they are simply awesome.

  • I luv Polanski, can’t wait to see some new stuff. I like the set-up and think Polanski’s strong ideas as a storyteller will fix any ending!

looks hella cool, and the scene with mcgregor on brosnan’s private jet should have tension galore (pun intended. pussy galore, see? oh, whatever..)

  • The Man

I wish it was a big screen adapation of the PBS kids show.

  • Trailer looks good. Polanski is my favorite Director so saying i’m looking forward to anything by him is a pretty big understatement. Really hope its good.

    Cheers

This film is fantastic. filmjunk should review it.

There are lots of weaknesses in polanski’s anti-US government conspiracy plot, but as sheer entertainment the film is spot on. amazing considering the whole film mostly takes place inside one house. Ewan Macgregor’s acting is ok but everyone else is exceptionally good and the pacing and tension are really tight.
