George Lucas to Produce an Animated Musical About Fairies

George Lucas seems like a bit of an odd bird. Ever since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith was released, a lot of people have been wondering what he would do for an encore. Could he actually wrap his head around something other than a Star Wars film? Although it was originally reported that he would direct the Tuskegee Airmen movie Red Tails, it seems that he’s in no hurry to get back to directing, as he ended up only writing and executive producing it. Now, this week, we have our first mention of another Lucas project that is in development, but once again, he’s only on board as a producer.

According to Heat Vision, Kevin Munroe (TMNT) is going to be directing an untitled CG animated film for Lucasfilm. Here’s where it gets a bit weird though: it’s a musical. Featuring music “from a variety of sources”. What’s more, although the plot is currently under wraps, word on the street is that it has something to do with fairies. It’s still unclear whether or not this is based on a story by Lucas, but the screenplay was written by David Berenbaum (Elf, The Spiderwick Chronicles). Could this be the next Avatar? Either way, Lucas is clearly involved in some way, but I’m guessing this is not the triumphant return to independent filmmaking that everyone was hoping for from him. What do you think… are you interested in either Red Tails or this CG musical? Will we ever see another George Lucas project worth getting excited about, or is he long past the days of THX 1138?

    Is that John Sally?

  • Marc

    Yes it is!

  • Greg

Why is John Salley holding George Lucas like that? That’s the real story here.

  • The Man

Thats what I want to know Greg. Sean we need a new story.

  • Man that’s old news. He was in a celebrity racing thing back in 2007 and got in a pretty bad crash.

    Take a look:

  • Matt

This picture is very disturbing to me for some reason.

  • The Man

Those cars must have a lot of padding or some shit in them. Because no way in hell would they put him in danger like that.

  • Greg

Clearly it’s a celebrity racing thing, but did John Salley rescue him? Is that picture a re-enactment for the press?

    John Salley is my hero.

  • Mrespony

It’s never fun to write people completely off but let’s face it, this guy has become a real liability. It’s like Star Wars was this brilliant child that was capable of doing anything with it’s life if not for it’s idiot, overbearing father who jealously hoarded the credit for his child’s achievements, never allowing any outside influence in it’s life, dooming the child to a life of mediocrity and unrealized potential. You’re a shitty dad Lucas.

Well spoken, Mrespony! And that picture remains strange, despite the explanation…
