Bruce Campbell Announces My Name is Bruce 2

Here’s one sequel that I definitely didn’t think we’d ever see, but unfortunately, it appears that our old friend Bruce Campbell may not have a lot of career options available to him at the moment. He recently revealed plans for a sequel to his cult stinker My Name is Bruce, via the following top secret message over on Ain’t It Cool News:

“Hello everyone. Bruce Campbell here. This urgent message is short, because my keystrokes are monitored and I fear for my life. My partner at Dark Horse comics, Mike Richardson (normally a very rational and talented man), threatened to have his foot soldiers “crush my spleen” if I did what I am about to do. But the fans deserve to know, so with great trepidation I officially announce Bruce Vs. Frankenstein, the sequel to My Name is Bruce. Principal photography begins this fall in Oregon. I’d like to live long enough to see the cameras roll, so please, for the love of God, do not tell anyone – I can’t risk this announcement getting back to Mike! Thank you.”

I know a lot of people would much prefer to see him in the long-rumoured sequel to Don Coscarelli’s Bubba Ho-Tep, and I agree… really, anything that could get him away from the director’s chair is probably a good thing. Is it a coincidence that this announcement has come just a week or so after his good friend Sam Raimi decided to part ways with the Spider-Man franchise? Surely Raimi could find a small role for Bruce in a World of Warcraft movie instead! In the meantime, I guess we’ll just have to make do. What do you think, are you interested in a sequel to My Name is Bruce or is this just a bad idea?

  • Boy, I really wanted to love, even mildly like My Name is Bruce… but it almost no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I didn’t see the first one, but I just hope they call the sequel, “My Name is STILL Bruce.”

Guy used to be my hero, but with every film he does, his star fades that much more…He’ll never completely lose my respect but he really needs to ally himself with some better people. He just don’t cut the mustard as a director/writer/producer. He needs someone else to help guide his awesomeness. Coscarelli seemed like that man, but unfortunately Bubba Nosferatu is definitely not happening. Outside the Cinema podcast’s Bill mentioned doing an interview with Campbell where the mere mention of that film almost promptly ended the conversation.
    Too bad…

  • Whatever! This is great! Bruce has had his ups and downs, but he’s doing what he wants, and many fans wanted a sequel, including me. The film had comedy, horror, and cheesy effects. Most of my friends hate cheesy B films, but they all loved MNIB. Bruce is still an awesome actor, he just needs a break from the huge success of BURN NOTICE (awesome show) and the EVIL DEAD IV rumors. Personally I don’t care if that film gets made or not, theres always the comics that picked up after AOD, anywho YOU GO BRUCE!

I’ve a lot of love for Bruce, always comes across as a nice gut. I really wanted to like My name is Bruce, but it was absolute shit, all my friends are Bruce fans too and none of them liked it either
