Tekken Movie Trailer

tekkentrailer

Another day, another direct-to-DVD video game adaptation! Much like DOA: Dead or Alive and The King of Fighters, Tekken looks extremely low budget but has even fewer recognizable names, with the exception of Luke Goss (Hellboy II: The Golden Army). Perhaps this is so that they could concentrate on getting more talented martial arts fighters instead, but it’s hard to tell with all the quick cuts in the trailer.

For some reason, I was expecting a bit more from a Tekken movie, just because it seems like a relatively popular series of games, but I’m not sure if there’s much else you can do with these fighting game franchises. It’s directed by Dwight H. Little who previously did Seagal’s Marked For Death, along with Halloween 4 and Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home. Tekken hits theatres in Japan on March 6th, 2010, and although a U.S. release date is still TBD, I seriously doubt we’ll be seeing this one in theatres around here. Check out the trailer after the jump.

i was dreaming of this when i was a kid…

    it looks so lame..

    i hate Kids..

  • I will be visiting Japan when this opens. I can’t wait.

  • Big Hungry

This is about 15 years too late.

  • Niklas

of all the video games out there, why are they doing fighting games?

  • pcch7

well, Chiaki Kuriyama is in it so at least that´s something..

  • KYriakos

Is Reed in it as well?

  • KYriakos

They forgot to say.. From the Visionary director Dwight H. Little

who directed … Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home

    AND

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid…

  • KYriakos

This is a perfect example how hollywood works..

Hm.. there is a small audience who is willing to pay money to see ANY kind of movie with the name TEKKEN on it so lets make a Cash-grab out of this Jerks..

They hire a prostitute director who is willing to direct anything as long he is getting paid for it, Even though he practically never heard of the Game before and has zero interest in it. He shits and wipe his ass with film, and Vuala..

    Your movie is ready..

  • Brendan

Direct to DVD. That makes me the premiere!

  • KYriakos

Hollywood will even spell voilà wrong..

  • Nick Robertson

@ Brendan – I LOVE the Kramer reference.

  • sam

not going to lie they should scrap it now before people cant watch this crap fest witch by all means should not even be called tekken. i am deeply saddened to see a great game get ruiened

  • fuckingshits

    Hahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahhahahahahahha..ah!

  • Matt

Can someone please tell hollywood that fighting games have some of the most throw away irrelevant plots in the gaming world, and probably don’t make the best movie adaptations…

  • Jason

Are you serious???? Say goodbye to the Tekken franchise. The cheesy movie always signifies the end of an era.

  • Brian R

    yikes.

  • I agree that the trailer is shit, but between casting real martial artists and setting it at an actual tournament I still have hope for this movie. So long as they keep the editing under control it could end up on par with Mortal Kombat.

Of course, I felt the same way over that Chun Li movie and look how that turned out.

  • Henrik

I watched Chun-Li and I sum it up with one legendary line from that movie:

    “That had to be done.”

  • Joonas

I hate people giving shit about this movie. IN WHAT RESPECT IS THE GAME BETTER?

    Jon Foo – Wushu master
Cary Tagawa – Needs no introduction. Expert of a martial art, and creator of Chun-Shin
Lateef Crowder – Unbelievable Capoeirista, wait and see..
Anton Kasabov – Remarkable Taekwondo talent and master
    Gary Daniels – Kickboxing champion
Darrin Henson – 15 years or martials arts under belt, also dance coreographist
Nathan Jones – live Craig Marduk
Ian Anthony Dale – Watch this guy out, he’ll make Kazuya look like a puss
Cyrill Raffaelli – The coreographist.. watch his parkour videos

  • KYriakos

    @Joonas

Yes i do have the same emotional expectations form a movie similar to the ones i had while playing the game..

Yes i expect to be blown away..
Yes i expect Citizen kane with decapitations.

is this too much to ask from hollywood?

ok then lets pay 12$ to watch some asian guys that you DONOT control with a joystick fistfight for 90 minutes..

its like a childhood torture all over again.. watching someone else play videogames you cannot effort…

  • Cifihutudefopo

Im a huge fan of Tekken…That’s why I still got some hope for this movie…I’m still really hoping and wishing that this game won’t let me down that much… or else I may not play tekken already…

I’ve really wish that they do a CGI movie version just like their intro…It would so much justify the game and its pure action…

  • stevie_baby

Of all the videogames genres available, studio execs think the best ones to make movies of are fighting games. Why? Most have very little (or very poor) storylines and characterisation which serve only as an excuse to get characters fighting on-screen.

Yes, this looks bad, but definitely not as bad as Chun-Li, DOA or the many other D-movies that have come out.

  • moe_sizzle

Just think of its as Chun-Li, DOA and Dragonball. Watch at your own risk.

  • Chad

I think many people are missing out the Street Fighter Movie here which was quality, as was Mortal Kombat, I dunno what this’ll be like from the trailer but I’m still willing to stream and watch it online somewhere and buy it if it’s actually good.
