Matt Damon: No Greengrass, No Bourne

Tough luck Bourne fans: no Greengrass, no Damon… no Bourne.

As reported earlier, Paul Greengrass has officially quit the fourth Jason Bourne flick, explaining his leave in a statement that he simply needs new challenges — something another go around of Bourne can’t give. Now, as most people more or less expected, Matt Damon, the star of the franchise, has also jumped ship saying that as long as there’s no more Greengrass, then there will be no more Bourne.

“I’ll just wait for him and when he wants to do one, we’ll do it,” Matt Damon said while out promoting his latest theatrical effort, Clint Eastwood’s Invictus. When asked if the comment meant that he would not do another Bourne flick without Greengrass, Damon had this to say: “Yeah, I’ve always said that. But I think it will happen down the road. We just don’t have a script right now.” So all in all, hope is not yet dead, but unless Greengrass changes his mind we won’t see Jason Bourne running around anytime soon. Until the franchise eventually gets rebooted some ten or fifteen years from now anyway.

    YEEEEEEES!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!

Jetz get los! Jetz get looooooooooooos!!

  • The Man

Wow didn’t expect that. I thought they’d just get Ratner. I guess Matt’s got enough money.

The problem with big franchises these days is that everyone always assumes there’s only one man for the job. Paul Greengrass is a great director, but he isn’t the only man capable of making a good Bourne film.

Fans and Damon should be open to other interpretations from other filmmakers. It keeps things fresh.

    *applauds Damon’s decision*

also, there’s no rush for a new Bourne movie. i think the majority are content with 3.

Napalm – very much agree. They should keep it at 3

I thought the ending of Ultimatum wrapped the trilogy story up nicely. We don’t want to end up with another Lethal Weapon 4.

Jeez, its like you guys are assuming another Bourne film will automatically be bad. I don’t understand that, I really don’t.

God forbid you let someone at least TRY to make a decent film.

Well look at the film history. How many fucking sequels, or for that matter, fourth movies have done well? Huh? And after the series wrapped up huh?
Greengrass was giving another chance, and it seems that he didnt want to direct it either. HE TRIED, AND MADE UP HIS MIND.

I don’t understand the hard on matt damon has for Greengrass.. he’s a good director but is he really the only man who could direct it? No Deffinitely not. I personally thought the two movies greengrass made while good in their own way were lacking somewhat is visual flair.. instead using a handheld method with jump cut fast editing to give the illusion of pace. It was once said jump cuts were a poor substitute for good visual directing.
