Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, and Now… Spanish Movie?!

Just when you thought the legacy of the Scary Movie spoof series couldn’t possibly be applied to anymore genres, along comes the weirdest incarnation yet: Spanish Movie! That’s right, it’s a comedy that pokes fun at the best in Spanish-language cinema over the past few years including Pan’s Labyrinth, [REC], The Orphanage, The Others, and even Pedro Almodóvar’s Volver! The concept seems so ridiculously non-mainstream that you’d almost think this was a joke — until you realize that it’s actually produced by Fox’s Spanish studio arm.
Yep, this is a Spanish-language film that will be released in Spain this month, and really, why not? Why should North Americans be the only ones forced to suffer through such painful comedy? They actually have high hopes for the box office potential over there too. What I want to know is whether or not they plan to release it here eventually, because at that point it will become a foreign film spoofing foreign films that, for the most part, only discerning film geeks have seen. Will film snobs be forced to like it just because it’s in Spanish and skewers a wide array of critically acclaimed films, or will they hate it because it’s just another low brow spoof film starring Leslie Nielsen? Seems like quite the dilemma, if you ask me. Check out the trailer for Spanish Movie (en Espagnol, of course) after the jump and see what you think.
