Adrien Brody and Topher Grace Join Predators

Well if you were impressed with some of the A-list talent that signed on for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete feature film, you’re going to continue to be impressed with a couple of the big names in talks to headline his Predators sequel/reboot as well. According to THR’s Heat Vision Blog, Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal have apparently selected Adrien Brody for the lead role in the film, while Topher Grace is also in negotiations to join the cast. Other slightly less familiar faces already signed on include Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Walt Goggins, and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov. The casting breakdown is as follows:

Brody is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men. Grace would play an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer. Braga is the tough female killer. Ali is a man not afraid to die, Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent. Trejo … is Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.

I certainly didn’t think Adrien Brody would ever be interested in a role like this, much less actually land it, but that being said, he should be a great asset to the film. Looking at his filmography, I don’t think he’s ever starred in an action movie (King Kong would probably be the closest thing), but I am sure he could pull it off. Grace, on the other hand, will still have to win people over from his performance as Eddie Brock and Venom in Spider-Man 3, but ever since his minor role in Traffic, I’ve always thought he had talent beyond just comedy. Then again, it’s possible that his character exists to provide some comic relief as well. What do you think, is this solid casting, or are Brody and Grace not manly enough to head up a sequel to Predator?

In films (which steal from real life) the psychotic serial killer is always a nerdy, creepy, articulate guy who you kind of like because he’s so clever (ie. Steve Buscemi in Con Air). Sounds like Topher Grace to me.

  • Well I like Mr Brody but he’s… well… he’s no Clooney… what I’m saying is, is he playing the Predator?

  • I thought Grace was fine as Eddie Brock. His performance wasn’t that movie’s problem – it was its overinflated plot and depressing as hell tone.

  • Are they playing brothers? They certainly look like the could…cousins at the very least!

  • “I certainly didn’t think Adrien Brody would ever be interested in a role like this, ”

SPLICE, GIALLO, THE JACKET, THE EXPERIMENT, DUMMY and KING KONG.

Nope Brody likes doing this sort of stuff. His PIANIST Oscar was more of the outlier for the types of projects he tends to hop aboard.

Its a horrible choice. He’s the opposite of a badass,
he looks like he’s gonna start crying at any point, just completely wrong for a movie like this.

  • Damndirtyape

Fucking pathetic… Predator was a story about imposing alpha males going toe to to with a superior Alien foe.

Brody and Topher are a couple of pencil neck beta males with no hope of living up to Arnold and the others’ shoes. Why don’t they just add Zac Efron and be done with it.

  • weeble

this might have just killed the movie for me…….

  • Captain N

Im alright with Brody as the lead. I like Topher Grace. As Joel said, his performance as Brock/Venom was fine. The movie itself sucked.

  • Hmmm, who would have thunk Keanu Reeves, Matt Damon or Hugh Jackman would have made badass action hero leads.

The 80s have passed on, and pumped up testosterone beefcake is mainly for DTV and WWE movies. Sorry haters. I’d like to see a ‘new’ predator movie, because they certainly are not going to top the ‘muscles and badassery’ of the original anyway.

Also, Nimrod Antal is a very solid director. Highly encourage folks to check out his Hungarian Subway genre-masher KONTROLL it is awesome.

  • ….And Predator II rules.

  • Damndirtyape

    >> Hmmm, who would have thunk Keanu Reeves, Matt Damon or Hugh Jackman would have made badass action hero lead

They don’t even come close to topping Arnold, Weathers, and Ventura in Predator.. Damon and Jackman while not great, are still light years above 140lb Topher fucking Grace and Adrien Bodyless.

Predator was built upon over the top, larger than life bravado and testosterone. The only one I’m buying for this role so far is Danny Trejo

Robert Rodriguez, WHAT the FUCK are you thinking you lil bastard. You replace this skinny dude over Micheal Jai White. You are personally goingto kill the franchise with this cast you have. 20th century, you are goingto lose money with this cast I guaranteed it. I will personally have my own strike against you and make sure you lose money with this movie. Danny Trejo and Adrian Brody over Micheal Jai White, it’s still hard to believe this. Robert Rodriguez must be prejiduce against blacks or something, because they no damn well Micheal Jai White will pull this role off for the fans of the predator franchise, and will save the future of the predator sequels. 20th Century step in and stop Robert Rodriguez before he loses you alot of money. I CALL ON ALL THE PREDATOR FANS TO WRITE TO 20TH CENTURY FOX AND PUT A STOP TO THIS REAL QUICK BEFORE ROBERT RODRIGUEZ FUCKS THIS FRANCHISE UP.

According to LatinoReview’s description of the current script, there will still be big hulking bad asses, but I’m sure the Predators would also like to hunt conniving and clever prey that can elude capture with their intellect (like a serial killer a la Zodiac). Hence different types of people.

God this a fucking geeky conversation…

Um.. didn’t Arnold, the biggest guy in the movie defeat the predator with his cunning and intellect? He was no match for the predator physically and in the end outsmarted the alien using a combination of intelligence and strength (you have to be physically robust enough to survive getting batted around and to create and use the home-made bow and such)

Let me guess.. the big buys in the new film will be typical dumb-jock canon fodder like we have seen a million times before.

  • pureevilmatt

TOO MANY WIMPS. THIS MOVIE NEEDS MORE MUSCLES.

  • bullet3

Here’s the thing. If they want to do a movie where non-imposing “normal” people use their wits instead of strength to beat a powerful alien creature, go ahead, just don’t call it predator. If you’re making a sequel, you have an obligation to honor the tone, idea, and history of the original. Predator worked because it took a bunch of ultra-badass actors, and you watched them getting their ass kicked. Arnie was barely alive at the end, which made the predators seem so imposing and scary.
Not for a second can I buy that any of these leads could take down a predator. I had issues with how easily danny glover took down the predator in predator 2, but he could snap these assholes in half. It pisses me off, because I’ve been looking forward to a proper predator movie for years, and it finally seemed like it would get made, with people who love the original behind it, but with the script they chose(Which sounds like retarded fan-fiction written by a 10 year-old), and now this casting, I’m completely depressed.

While I admit that this movie DOES need more Governors, you gotta admit that the newest crop of action heroes don’t do much for box office. Randy Couture, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the rest of the C-level muscleheads would be pretty lame in this instance. The Rock might’ve been a good Arnie stand-in but he seems to prefer standard fare. Vin Diesel’s career is in the toilet to the extent that no one will touch him. I don’t know, I think I prefer acting chops over muscles, so this seems fine to me so far. Odd that the toughest dude in the movie(Trejo) is in his fuckin’ 60s! Oleg Taktarov isn’t so bad. If Alice Braga
beefed up she could be like the Vasquez(Aliens) of the bunch(unlikely).

It’s probably best not to judge on casting alone. As long as it’s smartly written, well acted, and violently action-y all should be well. Still pretty early to tell guys. Give it a chance. Anything’s better than what they’ve been doing with this franchise lately anyway. It’s kinda like the Ridley Scott prequel thing. Some people are worried, but these two series have been long raped and left to bleed from the anus in an alley somewhere…

  • fatbologna

“The Rock might’ve been a good Arnie stand-in but he seems to prefer standard fare”

Meant to say FAMILY fare there!

    bullet3,

do you honestly think the AVP series “honors” the original?

  • bullet3

No of course not, the AVP movies were absolute garbage.
And I’m just hoping this won’t be a repeat of those trainwrecks.

Well I wouldn’t exactly considering making a bow and arrow out of branches and a trap out of sharpened sticks (which didn’t even work right) as the height of cunning, I somewhat agree with you. But again, considering there is like 7 or 8 people being hunted, I’m not worried. Just thank god Christian Bale isn’t in the movie.

Well my point was that he Arnold didn’t defeat him through superior strength in a dopey martial arts fight. And considering that Arnold had no real weapons or equipment after falling off the waterfall..what ELSE could he have come up with aside from the bow and trap? It’s not like he had a handy weapons lab nearby.

  • “Just thank god Christian Bale isn’t in the movie.”

Zing. Points to Justice for that one.

    SCENE JUNGLE EXT DAY:

Adrian is shaving his armpits as Topher shaves his legs, another oddly feminine looking male walks up a bathrobe, holding a very ladylike drink.

Adrian : I hate bugs, they are sooooo gross

Topher : I know, for sure, I need a bath.

In the trees above, the Predator is listening, shaking his head and puts his hand over his face.
He quickly activates his self destruct device, looks at Mr. Rodriguez, and Rodriguez gives him the thumbs up.

    BOOM

  • Laserbeard

Predator was a vehicle for Arnold just as Arnold was a vehicle to the Predator. Let me explain.

Up until the Predator movie was released, Arnold had no equal on the screen. Every movie he was in, he killed everything on the screen. There was no MAN that could defeat him.
What made Predator so bad ass is that the Predator was the only thing in the universe that could possibly defeat Arnold, because Arnold was just THAT bad ass.

  • Steve

They can’t make a new Predator movie with the same actor types as before. I mean, if they make it with Alpha males, then who wants to watch it again? If they did, do we really want to watch The Rock, John Cena, Joe the Plumber and some other dumb dumbs goo after Vagina face again? I think making the movie with skinny Average Joes would be more interesting. Brody and the other guys will play nerdy scientists going after some rare ant species in the Amazon or Gorillas in the Congo when the Predator starts hunting them down. Brody will finally kill the Alien when he realizes his piano playing ability irritates the Alien to death. Yeah, thats my prediction.

  • Royce

ALL THOSE WHO DOUBT THIS MOVIE CAN SUCK IT!!

Predator is the shit, stop crying about the actors

  • I’ve seen all the Predator movies to date, I’ve even read the comic books (Dark Horse Comics, Predator). Nothing changes. Us humans are still the most bad asses in the universe.

  • Neri z

Now that I have seen this film I can honestly say it was blooming brilliant as adrien even turned out to be masculine sounding and acting and got incredibly buff for the role…I do believe I have developed a little crush on him but even Topher grace’s performance was amusing but towards the end the fact he shows a darker side was appealing and yet disturbing at the same time. I think they both did themselves justice…there is not a bad thing to say about this film for me…I was intrigued, mortified and completely engulfed by it…IT TOTALLY ROCKED!!!!and the way it ended….sequel I hear you all say???? I do hope they continue to woop some predator butt…alto…was anyone else somewhat disturbed by the bigger predators face??face for radio lol.
