I just watched this, and it's pretty bad.

It reminded me of a student film. If you've ever sat through a presentation of student films, you'll notice one thing: Almost all of them lack a story to even fill 10 minutes, and they almost always has a premise like the one in this film. You'll watch more montages than you can bear in one of those presentations, and I think this movie has more montages than any I've seen (I have not seen Rocky 4). It is all filler, no killer. The religion thing is the only possible place to go to get any sort of content, but it's nowhere near enough to salvage the boredom. Seing Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Edward Norton made me wish I was watching a movie with these guys in the leads, and the only funny scene I thought was the Stephen Merchant scene, which just made me wish I was watching the muffin scene instead. The other thing that made me laugh was the headline "Productivity down 14%: Everybody thinking about mansions". Pretty rough for a 90minute film I thought. Hard to get through.

It makes no sense to me why Ricky Gervais is playing these boring characters. And if there was ever a proper place to use the FilmJunk word "ordinary", it would be to describe the cinematography.

I can't say I was disappointed, but it was as bad as it looked and I feared it would be.

the dialogue does go overboard with the characters expressing ALL of their feelings simply because they can't lie, but they have to in order for it to work. but all in all, i thought it was a fun film worth seeing if you want a unique comedy with some really good laughs. not the best of course but its fun.

I saw Ricky on The Daily Show and Conan, and on both occasions he said, "This is my first film, but I directed The Office and Extras". No, you 'co'-directed them. Let's face it, if he's not closely monitored Ricky ends up torturing assistants, squeezing heads or playing with elastic bands. I can't help but wonder how good this movie would be had he been a little less self-indulgent and not ditched Stephen Merchant from the start.
