The Book of Eli Trailer #2

If you’re a sucker for all things post-apocalyptic, you’ll be excited to hear that the latest trailer for The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington has arrived online. Unfortunately, if you’re like me, you may also be disappointed after you watch it. While I didn’t mind the first trailer that was released back in the summer, I have to say that this new trailer feels like a step backward. It does re-use a lot of footage we’ve already seen, but the slightly extended action scenes and dialogue, digital backdrops and lame musical choices are pretty underwhelming.
With The Road coming out later this year, I think post-apocalyptic movies are going to have their work cut out for them if they want to avoid looking seriously inferior from here on in. Granted, The Book of Eli is supposed to be much more action-oriented, and also seems to have some sort of fantastical religious element to it, but most of the fight sequences looked pretty weak to me. Even if Denzel succeeds in saving the world, something tells me he still won’t be able to save this movie. The January release date says it all. The Book of Eli hits theatres on January 15th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
