Ridley Scott and John Logan to Reteam for Vampire Movie The Passage

Ridley Scott seems to be giving Guillermo Del Toro a run for his money lately in terms of the number of projects he is attaching himself to, although it remains to be seen just how many of these will actually end up getting made. He’s got the Alien prequel, Brave New World, Monopoly, and The Forever War all on his plate currently, just to name a few. Now it looks like he may be adding a vampire movie to the mix as well, and considering how popular bloodsuckers are as of late, it could end up going into production sooner rather than later.
According to Variety, Fox 2000 acquired the rights to Jordan Ainsley’s novel The Passage back in 2007 after a major bidding war. The book won’t hit stores until June 2010, but it will be a part of a trilogy, which is always a major plus for movie studios. John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd) will write the script. The story revolves around bats in South America whose bite seems to be a miracle cure for terminal illness; government testing on death row inmates ends up leading to an outbreak of vampires. Ridley Scott is not yet confirmed as director, but will likely decide whether or not to take it on himself based on how the script turns out. Does this sound like a good project for him? Which of his upcoming films do you want to see the most?
