Halloween H20 Director to Return For Halloween 3D?

A former well known man within the Halloween franchise, Steve Miner, may return to direct Halloween 3D – or so the first rumor about the third installment in the freshly rebooted horror series says. Apparently Bloody Disgusting received an e-mail from an actor claiming this, which is pretty much all there is to say about it. For now I’d categorize it as a pretty vague rumor.

However, it is an interesting rumor, which wouldn’t be too shabby if it was actually true. Miner has an okay track record having previously directed the somewhat decent Halloween H20 back in 1998. But H20 aside, he has also previously directed both Friday the 13th Part 2 and Part III. So even though he has gone downhill since then, he is still the man who made the movies that both created the Jason we know and love, and also gave him his classic hockey mask, so his involvement would be much welcomed.

But then again, I doubt there is any truth in this since Miner is mostly directing episodes of various TV shows these days, having recently directed one of this season’s Eureka episodes. In terms of horror, however, he did make the 2008 straight-to-DVD remake of George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead which I’ve heard was horrible, so I’m still a bit iffy on the whole subject matter. What do you think… would this be a good thing for the Halloween franchise?

  • Boo.

I like Steve Miner for his past entries in the horror genre, but they need to bring in a new, decent director. Someone had mentioned Bryan Bertino (director of “The Strangers”) I think that sounds about right…

Miner would quite literally be taking a giant step backwards.

  • Please, please let this be true. Wouldn’t you love to see Halloween on a massive 3D FHD screen?

I LOVED H20. One of my favorites of the original series, and I loved the first 10 minutes or so of H8. And Friday the 13th Part 2 has always been one of my favorites of the original F13 series. Hope this rumor turns out to be true.

This kinda goes against what the Weinsteins were saying about picking a new director who would bring a ‘fresh take’ to the series (I thought Rob Z. was supposed to bring the fresh take, guess fresh don’t last as long as it used to). This guy’s obviously been around the horror movie retread block a time or two so his take can’t be that fresh. I never saw H20 but it sounded better than the other ones and it had Jamie Lee coming back so that helped. I guess he can’t be any worse than anyone else. Not like the script is going make or break this movie anyway.
