Guillermo del Toro and Nikolaj Arcel Adapting DC’s Deadman

Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro is a man who seems to do only two things: start up new movie projects and dominate the hotel buffet. Yes, he certainly is a man who likes to eat, but let’s put that aside for now and focus on the other thing he does oh so well: starting up new projects.

Del Toro has signed on to adapt DC Comics’ Deadman into a live-action film with him acting as a producer for the project, and while I had no idea about the existence of this Deadman comic until now, I am very excited about this news since apparently a fellow countryman of mine, the Danish director Nikolaj Arcel, is going to direct the flick. Huzzah!

Deadman will be a Crow-esque thriller centering around a circus tightrope walker who gets murdered only to return as a ghost having the ability to inhabit the bodies of others in order to find his killer. Arcel, who will direct, has previously made the Danish fantasy film Island of Lost Souls which starred Lars Mikkelsen, the lesser known brother of Casino Royale star Mads Mikkelsen.

  • Lord knows I love comic books but Deadman has to be one of the lamest characters ever. EVER.

Guillermo can probably make it decent, but I’d rather see him do something with more teeth and without the need to develop a traditional, awful, comic-hero backstory… something like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… sigh…

De Toro can do whatever the Hell he want’s , so eat a Dick anyone who think’s otherwise.(i’m talk’in to you Shut-up Ed!)

  • So hard to stop at just one…

  • Henrik

Nikolaj Arcel is the new Renny Harlin. He belongs in America, doing these films.

  • Niklas

this sounds really lame but Im up for anything del toro does..

  • “De Toro can do whatever the Hell he want’s” – except write/direct a decent 3rd act..he’s a glorified art director.

  • Deadman is a great concept for a movie.

And if anything The Crow is Deadman-esque, not the other way around.
