The Green Hornet’s Kato Will Hail From Taiwan Not Korea

At the risk of unleashing another amusing thread of comments in broken Engrish, I bring today unfortunate news that Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo will not be playing Kato in Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet after all. Despite his charming face and strengthened body, this casting was not achieved. Gloom. No, according to Sony Pictures, they have chosen Taiwanese musician and actor Jay Chou for the role instead.

Chou is best known for his roles in the Hong Kong racing movie Initial D and Zhang Yimou’s Curse of the Golden Flower, although he also recently appeared in the thinly-veiled Shaolin Soccer clone Kung Fu Dunk. I am guessing that anyone who thought Kwon Sang-woo was too much of a pretty boy will probably feel the same way about Chou, although his name is a little more well-known internationally. What do you think? Is Jay Chou a poor choice, or can he successfully step into a role previously played by Bruce Lee?
