Make no mistake, the G.I. Joe cartoon and comics have always existed primarily to sell toys, which explains why they built up such a huge cast of characters over the years. Still, I was always impressed by how they were able to give so many of the characters distinct personalities, and I think this is one of the reasons why it became such a popular show and why it was able to inspire a live action feature film 25 years later.
