James McTeigue and the Wachowski Brothers’ Ninja Assassin Trailer

Warner Brothers have been pretty tight-lipped about the upcoming Wachowski Brothers/James McTeigue action flick Ninja Assassin so far, but this week at the San Diego Comic Con they’ve finally tipped their hand by unveiling the very first trailer over at MTV. This is the same team who brought us V For Vendetta, and this time they’re telling the story of a shadowy killer who seeks revenge on the Clan that trained him.

The movie features Korean pop star Rain in the lead role, and he looks like anything but a pop star here as he is covered in blood wielding all kinds of shiny weaponry and pushing his body to the limit. I trust the Wachowskis to offer some decent eye candy and impressive action set pieces, but my main concern is the use of flashy CG effects. If a movie like this is selling itself on how hardcore it is, it will unfortunately have to compete with stuff like Ong Bak 2 and Chocolate. Hopefully they can find a good balance between the high-tech tricks and back to basics martial arts stuff. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think. Ninja Assassin hits theatres on November 25th.

i’m always up for a fun and gory action flick, and this one seems to be just that!

  • no mention if it will be 3d…sure looks like that is their intent.

  • Niklas

this looks like it could be a lot of fun.. just like Sean said it might be too heavy on CGI tho..

  • I’ll bite.

  • Big Hungry

I agree with CGI comments. I hope they do not over load the movie with “only in a CGI world” can this happen approach. But it looks like it might be good. I miss the old Ninja Days.

They couldn’t afford the extra CGI for 3d after blowing all that money on Speed Racer. LOL ROFL.

Remember, the trailers looked good for Speed Racer too.

Rain doesn’t look like a genuine Martial Artist when he moves. He’s like the Milli Vanilli of Pop Martial Arts.

  • I’d see it.

    Because Speed Racer was awesome

    Thats right.

This looks decent. The trailer’s terrible. But I can see potential for awesomeness. Ninja ARE inherently awesome to start with and the fact that Sho Kosugi who’s an ultimate Ninja himself is the villain makes this a must see(although he DID get his ass handed to him by a blind white dude in Blind Fury, I’ll still give him the benefit of the doubt as that blind white dude was Rutger Hauer reincarnated as Zatoichi).

Anyone even slightly interested in the ways of the ninja should check out the penultimate greatness that is the Shinobi no Mono series. That shit’s EPIC! Demon Spies is pretty freakin’ great, too.

The title of this movie was awesome, and Speed Racer was also awesome. I am excited for this.

  • You had me at “Ninja.”

“More like Non-ja, it’s amazing what passes for a ninja these days”

I loved Speed Racer and the action in this looks awesome at least. I’ll def be watching this.

Looks pretty weak to me. I prefer real martial artists not pop stars on wires. Gimme more Chuck yo!

  • This inspired me to purchase “Shogun Assassin” on Amazon.

  • i’m so exciting for this movie . i like rain in this movie .
