Let The Right One In Remake Finds Its Oskar… Err, Owen

With the remake of Let The Right One In set to go before cameras later this year, it appears that casting is finally underway and the producers may be close to signing their first actor. According to Moviehole, an interview in Australian tabloid The Herald-Sun with 13-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road, Romulus, My Father) indicates that he is currently up for a role in the Matt Reeves-directed film. Although it doesn’t confirm that he would play the lead role, he certainly seems to look the part.
In the original film, the young boy was named Oskar and the girl Eli, but apparently the remake will change their names to Owen and Abby respectively. The English-language version will maintain the 1980’s period setting, but it will take place in small town Colorado during the winter months. There seem to be conflicting reports over whether or not the film will be retitled to Let Me In. As for the female lead, there is no word on who might be considered as of yet, but it is probably an even more crucial role. Any suggestions? And has anyone out there seen any of Kodi Smit-McPhee’s performances to date? This remake seems to have a lot riding against it, but perhaps with some inspired choices they’ll still be able to win people over.
