Pauly Shore Might Sue Bruno for Stealing his Baby Adoption Joke

It should probably come as no surprise that Sacha Baron Cohen may have yet another lawsuit on his hands as a result of the upcoming film Bruno. What is a little bit unexpected, however, is the fact that the person contemplating legal action is not one of Bruno’s on-screen victims… but rather comedian Pauly Shore!

According to the New York Daily News, Shore is seeking retribution for Bruno’s baby adoption gag, which figures prominently in the trailer. He seems to think it may have been stolen from his own movie Adopted (tagline: “First there was Angelina, then Madonna, and now Pauly!”). When I wrote about the first trailer for Bruno back in April, I did joke about the similarities between the two films, although I certainly didn’t expect him to actually call up his lawyer.

Clearly it’s going to be hard to prove any sort of plagiarism here, especially since very few people have even seen Pauly Shore’s new film. Still, I suppose if he can get some free publicity out of the deal, it will probably still be worthwhile for him. What do you think… does he actually have a case? Which movie looks funnier?

    this is a poor call on Shore’s part…first of all, jokes about adoption are common these days and to single out one specific now…meh. he’s a washed up comedian who just as you said needs a little publicity and well possibly some dinero in his pockets.

    I’m pretty sure he probably got the idea from Jolie and Madonna…NOT Mr. Pauly. I guess Madonna or Angie could sue him for plagiarizing their lives…no…no they couldn’t. Pauly Shore = sad moron.

  • If these type of lawsuits had any validitity then the producers of Die Hard could have sued the makers of Undersiege 1&2, Passenger 57, Speed 2,Executive Decision and countless of films that used terrorist takeover plotlines. This type of thing is silly.

  • what is this i really don’t believe on it that Bruno’s baby adoption gag,has been stolen from the movie adopted. i think it is a matter of just footage thats it.but we are ready to enjoy both.
