Total Recall Remake Gets a Writer with Geek Cred

If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering why there is a Total Recall remake in development at all right now, but alas, this is the world we live in. Producer Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious) has his work cut out for him if he expects to find a way to improve upon the original, and somehow make people forget about the presence of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the style of director Paul Verhoeven.

According to Variety, the project has just landed a writer in the form of Kurt Wimmer, who previously wrote and directed the films Equilibrium and Ultraviolet. He also wrote screenplays for Sphere, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Recruit, and more recently, Salt starring Angelina Jolie. So this is the part where everyone debates whether Equilibrium was actually any good. To me, it is easily the best thing Wimmer has done so far, but also heavily flawed and a bit ham-fisted. I am still too scared to watch Ultraviolet after all the terrible reviews. What do you think, is Kurt Wimmer going to save this remake, or completely ruin it?

    …..Recall Recall Recall……
I did like the original movie for the most part but come on….
All this re-due crap is driving me crazy.
Some one quick… come up with an original idea.
I am more excited to see Colore non Vedenti this seems original

Oh wait may be they should remake up and it just came out.

Equilibrium was crap, a blatant rip-off and a mess. This only confirms my suspicions about this project.

Love the original….remake is not neccessary.

I would be interested in seeing Cronenberg finally get to do his version on the story.

    They’re gonna fuck it up.

The original was great; I’d love to see a new version, but let’s be honest – how many remakes are as good as the original ?

Why are they remaking this? Argh. In terms of the Whimmer debate you’ve got it right Sean. I don’t see this being all that great. As far as I’m concerned the only movie that could do with a remake is Flight of the Navigator.
