Paul W.S. Anderson’s Castlevania Movie is Dead

A big screen adaptation of Konami’s Castlevania video game series has been in development for years now, but with Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm, it seemed destined to be just another terrible video game movie. When it was announced that Anderson would step back to take a producer role, there was a brief glimmer of hope, but then Sylvain White (Stomp The Yard, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) was chosen to take his place in the director’s chair and everyone went right back to not caring. Ian Jeffers (Death Sentence) was hired to write the script with Anderson.

Well, the good news is, it looks like Paul W.S. Anderson’s take on the project probably won’t be seeing the light of day. The bad news is, no one else will likely have a crack at it either. Bloody Disgusting reports that the movie has since fallen into development hell and has essentially been abandoned. What a bad time to let a vampire-related property slip through your fingers! I’m sure a lot of fans are breathing a sigh of relief, but I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t some small part of me that is disappointed. No word on what this means for the Warren Ellis animated Castlevania flick that was also in development.

    I find it strange that people actually bother to be upset about the fate of a movie based on a side scrolling platform game. I mean there’s not much material there to begin with so the whole thing has to be created almost from scratch and then you have people out there whining about how the film is not true to the game.

  • The mad Brit just made an appearance on Film Junk. Nice. Better stock up on Red Bull and carcinogens in case it happens again.

    Somebody should make that movie, sideways and jumping on platforms, whipping floating monsters. Most faithful game adaption ever.

  • I’m glad. Paul W.S. Anderson needs to stop ruining great franchises and find a foul place to curl up and die. I’ll never get over the RE movies.
