Guillermo Arriaga’s The Burning Plain Trailer Starring Charlize Theron

Not too long ago, writer/director team Guillermo Arriaga and Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel, Amores perros, 21 Grams) had a very public falling out, which led to Arriaga going his own way and making his directorial debut, The Burning Plain. The movie premiered last year at the Toronto Film Festival to very little fanfare, and although I thought the movie was fantastic, it has been slow to find its way to theatres since then.
This is somewhat surprising considering the success of Babel and the fact that the movie stars Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger, but it appears that Magnolia Pictures will finally be stepping up to give it a limited release in September. The first full trailer for the movie has popped up online, and although it is a little cryptic, you can still get a feel for the visuals, not to mention the trademark interlocking storylines full of emotional turmoil. If you’re curious, you can check out my full review of The Burning Plain from last year; look for it in select theatres on September 18th.
