Rob Marshall’s Nine Trailer Starring Daniel Day-Lewis

Is it too early to give Rob Marshall’s Nine the Oscar for Best Film? Oh, alright I suppose we can wait a few more months. The director of Chicago is back with another musical extravaganza, this one based on a screenplay by Michael Tolkin, which was based on a book by Arthur Kopit, which was based on an Italian play by Mario Fratti, which was inspired by Federico Fellini’s 8½. Did you get all that? Good. Here’s the summary: Singing + Dancing + Daniel Day-Lewis = Oscar.

DDL plays Guido Contini, a middle-aged director who is trying to complete his next film, but finds himself being pressured by all the women in his life including his wife, mistress and producer. The supporting cast includes Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, and Kate Hudson. I have to admit, even though musicals aren’t my thing, the trailer for Nine does show off some pretty cool visuals. Check it out below and see what you think. You can also watch it in HD over at Apple. Nine hits theatres on November 25th.

i’d probably go see it. I love musicals and chicago was very well done so yeah, count me in.

and if Rob Marshall gets an oscar then “he had it comin”

These big, orchestrated, song and dance musicals make me queasy. I can’t stands ‘em. Regardless of who’s in it, I’ll have to stay away.

I quite enjoyed 8 1/2 and I guess doing a musical version seems apt considering how surreal elements of the film were. In terms of Oscar I suppose it really depends on where the Academy is by then. With Obama in office Hollywood is feeling pretty good so light, hopeful, and offbeat stuff is back. But we’ll see.

I cant stand musicals but will check it out for DDL and the big titted girl in the beginning of the trailer.

  • “some pretty cool visuals.”

You mean massive jugs! Fergie ftw.

  • “With Obama in office Hollywood is feeling pretty good so light, hopeful, and offbeat stuff is back.”

    wtf

8 1/2 is my favorite film. I know that Nine was on Broadway in the 80’s, I’m glad that Rob Marshall made the film. This will also be a great tribute to Fredrico Fellini.

  • This is going to play at my theater for a decade.

    Fuck.

Release date Nov 25? I wish.
