I don’t hate the movie, but it is not my cup of tea. I’d have been in heaven if I was 10 years old watching this though.

I liked the look of the film, I liked all the actors and characters. The story is lazy bullshit, although their trick at sidestepping the ‘continuity shackles’ of the trek universe was pretty sublime actually. But what is baffling is that everyone just accepts that life moves at this breakneck pace and that any idea they come up with for any problem will simply work the first time. The crew never ever seem challenged despite the ‘universe is at stake’ bombast. Truly this is Star Trek for the modern short-attention span viewer.

Seriously, I think there’s something wrong with me, because I don’t understand why people are liking this movie. I mean if it wasn’t Star Trek, I would probably think this film was terrible. (I believe Henrik feels the same way.)

I’ll try to articulate my reasons on Monday’s podcast. I plan on writing a spoiler-free review, a spoiler-filled critique, and a review of other people’s reviews.

I bought my ticket for 10 o’clock tonight. It hasn’t sold out here. Not much of a Trekkie fan base here. It’s a retirement town. I guess old people are thinking about death rather than the future.
