Live Star Trek Podcast with Trekkie Reed Farrington: This Monday at 8 pm EST

livetrekpodcast

Well we’ve been talking about this movie for the better part of 3 years now, and here at Film Junk the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek is a pretty big deal… especially for our resident Star Trek expert Reed Farrington. As we count down the hours, it seems only appropriate that we should schedule a live podcast in order to give our thoughts on the film, and discuss it further with all of you. So that is exactly what we’re going to do. Here are the details:

Film Junk’s Live Star Trek Video Podcast
Monday May 11th @ 8 pm EST
Broadcasting Live on Ustream

In addition to reviewing Star Trek and going through our usual podcast routine, we will also be giving away a set of Burger King collector’s glasses and toys live on the show. For more info on this stuff, check out Reed’s shameless shill for Burger King in his latest Treknobabble. As always, we will try to take questions from the chatroom in the latter half of the show. Hope to see you all there!

  • I saw it last night.

    Spoiler: It’s awesome.

  • Last night, I was at a music store that had the novelization of the movie and I read the last page to find out how the movie ends.

  • Matt C

Hey Reed, how does it end?

  • AdamH

Reed how the F could you spoil it for yourself!?!?!

  • Bob The Slob

yeah Reed, why would you do that?

  • Spoiler Alert: Reed’s head explodes – that’s how it ends.

  • I guess I do things that sabotage my happiness. Or maybe I get a thrill from doing things that normal people don’t do. Things that aren’t morally reprehensible though.

I bought my ticket for 10 o’clock tonight. It hasn’t sold out here. Not much of a Trekkie fan base here. It’s a retirement town. I guess old people are thinking about death rather than the future.

  • “I guess I do things that sabotage my happiness.”
    – no truth great than this has ever been expressed on filmjunk

    Will be there for sure

  • I have seen the future! And it’s not pretty. The book is better than the film. Okay, so I’ve only read the last page of the novelization. Ha ha.

Seriously, I think there’s something wrong with me, because I don’t understand why people are liking this movie. I mean if it wasn’t Star Trek, I would probably think this film was terrible. (I believe Henrik feels the same way.)

I’ll try to articulate my reasons on Monday’s podcast. I plan on writing a spoiler-free review, a spoiler-filled critique, and a review of other people’s reviews.

Hahaha. Why am I not surprised Reed. I can’t wait for the podcast.

  • Looking forward to hearing everyones views on Star Trek!

  • sounds like a classic example of the jilted lover and if I can’t have her no one can!

  • I’m with you on the new Trek Reed, It’s like a 12 year old child with ADD. Spastic in its need to keep moving forward. If it goes fast enough all the glaring story and plot holes will be glazed over by the starry-eyed audience.

I don’t hate the movie, but it is not my cup of tea. I’d have been in heaven if I was 10 years old watching this though.

I liked the look of the film, I liked all the actors and characters. The story is lazy bullshit, although their trick at sidestepping the ‘continuity shackles’ of the trek universe was pretty sublime actually. But what is baffling is that everyone just accepts that life moves at this breakneck pace and that any idea they come up with for any problem will simply work the first time. The crew never ever seem challenged despite the ‘universe is at stake’ bombast. Truly this is Star Trek for the modern short-attention span viewer.

  • Will this be up on iTunes? Really wanna hear what Reed thinks of the movie :)
