Weekly Poll Results: 2009 Summer Blockbuster Predictions

pollresults2009blockbusters

Last week we asked you guys to predict what the biggest movie of the summer will be, and the winner, not surprisingly, was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It’s hard to argue with that, after all, Transformers ended up being the 3rd biggest movie of 2007, beating such films as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. There were really only 4 movies that got any votes at all in this poll, the others being Star Trek, Terminator Salvation and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Understandable, but why did Pixar’s Up only get 0.7% of the votes? And mark my words, Land of the Lost will make a boatload of cash as well! After all this, I suppose the better question is, which of these summer movies are you actually looking forward to?

1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen — 36.3%
2. Star Trek — 24%
3. Terminator Salvation — 16.1%
4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince — 15%
5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine — 3%
6. Funny People — 1.9%
6. Angels & Demons — 1.9%
8. Up — 0.7%
8. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs — 0.7%
10. Land of the Lost — 0.4%

i dissagree. I think you are all underestimating harry potter, and the fandom assosciated with it.

  • terminator’s gonna get first. up 2nd! and where the hell is public enemies!!

Yea I think the question shouldn’t have been which one is gonna be the biggest hit. While I love Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler and am anticipating Funny People beyond belief, I agree with the assertion about Up, There’s no way Funny People will make more than Up. However, Land of the Lost will make the least of any of these. It has the obvious cheese factor, and usually the cheese factor leads to a moderately successful opening weekend followed by plummeting the next weekend. I have hardly seen the preview with any movie and the buzz is in the crapper. Fact is it looks like dog crap.

I completely disagree. i have just seen that terminator made only 14.3 m on its openign friday. Half blood prince will fly past that and will also beat star trek. Its a battle between transformers and harry potter
