Film Junk Poll: What is the Best Star Trek Series?

pollbeststartrek

This week the gloves come off folks! It’s time to talk Trek in all of its various incarnations, and what better way than to argue over which TV series is the best? Reed Farrington already invited this discussion a while back in his two-part Treknobabble article Ranking the Star Trek Series, but I think now is a good time to revisit it. (Before someone mentions it, yes, I realize that I didn’t include The Animated Series in the poll.) Anyway, go ahead and vote for your favourite, and then feel free to discuss the best Star Trek series and movies in the comments below.

  • I’m not surprised at the TNG love. It’s easily my fave of the series but I also have a serious soft spot for Voyager. I never saw it when it was on the air but picked up the first few seasons on DVD and was hooked from the getgo. Some of the time travel stuff wasn’t great and I wasn’t a fan of the ending but I really liked the characters.

    Picard all the way!

  • Section 31

I’ve always thought that DS9 was a little better than TNG. DS9 had episodes with subjects that TNG wouldn’t dare touch. It was a more adult Star Trek series than TNG.
As a HUGE Trekkie, I love all the series of course. I own all 5 series on DVD and spent several months ripping all of the episodes onto a firewire drive. Now I just have it on all the time playing random episodes. It’s awesome.

    Top 5 Trek characters:

    1- Tuvok
    2- Chief O’Brien
    3- Quark
    4- Data
    5- Luther Sloan

    Peace.

DS9 was easily the best of series. The continueing story lines that ran thru the entire series were amazing.

    5: Kirk
    4: Worf
    3: Gul Dukat
    2: Sisko
    1: Riker

DS9 was the only one that was able to carry on an interesting storyline in the later seasons with the war. That stuff that Ron Moore did was fantastic and it showed characters behaving with real vices and flaws unlike all the TNG shit which was mostly crap other than a few moments that were way too sparse.

  • Rick

….you guys have to be kidding.

DEEP SPACE NINE SUX CAPTIAN PICKARDS BALLS.

it was such a horrible show. it was boring, it was was lame, there was nothing of interest, or anything that made the show worth watching for that matter. The only thing wors is enterprise.

My favorite is TNG and Voyager. 7 of 9 mudda fucka!!!
and i love the episode of the original series with the pink fuzzy furry ball things.

as you can tell i’m not an avid star trek fan, and most certainly not a trekkie, but i enjoy the show. i’m just saying what appeals to me. and thats TNG and Voyager.

  • Rick, I think DS9 requires more of an investment from the viewer because of the story arcs that ran through the show. I’ll admit that the first season seems rather boring, but the first season episodes become enjoyable upon repeat viewing after you get to know the characters. Seriously, DS9 is the only Star Trek series that made me look forward to the next week’s episode.

i got to say, i remember when i was a kid and the frist tng came on i remember seeing captin pecard for the first time, i said who is this bolded headed man i dont want him to be the captin. but after that frist show i was hooked. this was the frist time i really watched star trek i was about 12 years old, i knew of the first series, i always thought is was boring and i still do. but tng all the way. also voyager was great to and i just ordered DS9 on ebay and im really looking forward to that aswell, i never really seen it so i cant wait to see some new trek…

  • Random

I think Star Trek is actually pretty dull over all, but it has its moments. Sci-Fi isn’t exactly my thing, but TNG is watchable, for sure.

A bit late in the game here but, I am a HUGE fan and need to comment…

My favorite series has to be Voyager though I love them all. I enjoy Voyager the most because I really grew to love the crew. I also think that Voyager had the least of the “silly” (save when Q showed up) episodes and the most of the scientifically fascinating ones. Harry, Seven, Bellana, et al were always solving the most puzzling dilemmas and the solutions were always main character to the episode… i like SciFi because i like science, hence i like Voyager the most.

I think that DS9 does have the best story continuity and I was always waiting in anticipation for the next episode hoping it would be dedicated to the looming war with the Dominion. I also did love the episodes focused around Sisko as the emissary.

My favorite characters: (in this order!)

    1) The holographic doctor
    2) Warf (DS9 days)
    3) Harry Kim
    4) Sisko
    5) Jordie
    6) Thom Paris
    8) Janeway
    9) Seven of Nine
    10) Bellana Tores

    Non-crew:
    – General Martok
    – Gelreck
    – Gull Ducat
    – Weyoon
    – Borg Queen

    thanks…

okay. so here is the deal. i hate the reset button. tng, tos both hit the reset button to often(pretty much at the end of every episode) ds9 however had a great continuing story. voyager did kinda the same. enterprise season 3, if you dont like it then you are not a true trek fan. period. great story line, lots of back story holes being filled by the plot. the fight scenes are great. the plot was great, to many people are on the “lets hate enterprise” band wagon. that being said. ds9 and enterprise are my two faves. SORRY, I LIKE PROGRESSIVE STORY LINES. not sitcom resets. fantasy draft for number one crew:

    cap: sisko
    first: spock
    science: data
    tactical: worf
    engine: trip
    helm: tom paris
    comm:hoshi
    doc: emh
    misc: obrian

lmao @ Spock clearly getting the shaft here. Mainly because hipsters think its cliche to recognize Spock as the best character even though he clearly is. In a desire to be original you have all clearly failed.

  • QisGod

Star Trek is watchable in my opinion, but I don’t really think that the series is all that remarakable.

If I had to choose one to be the best, it would certainly be The Next Generation.

  • Peculiar_Lifeform
