Another Green Lantern Rumour: Bradley Cooper as Hal Jordan?

Well there’s not much else going on today, so I guess another Green Lantern rumour is just what the doctor ordered. Last we heard, Chris Pine was still the frontrunner for the role, and although Brian Austin Green was trying to rally some support for himself, it didn’t seem to be working. This week, however, we’ve got word from HitFix that Bradley Cooper is now in the running to play Hal Jordan as well.

Who is Bradley Cooper? Well, you might know him from Nip/Tuck or Alias on TV, and he recently had major roles in Yes Man and The Midnight Meat Train. He’s not exactly a household name… at least not yet. However, he is also one of the stars of the upcoming Todd Phillips comedy The Hangover, and the early buzz seems to indicate that this movie could be one of the biggest hits of the summer. This is apparently what Warner Brothers are hoping for, but still… can he really anchor a major superhero flick? From what I’ve seen, I think the guy has comedic talent, but I’m not a big fan of him beyond that. Either way, it seems like they’re looking for up and coming stars rather than established ones here, and it’s interesting to see Cooper’s stock on the rise in Hollywood. Can you see Bradley Cooper as Green Lantern?

  • Goon

the most recent rumors i had heard – had whoever is playing Kirk in Star Trek as Green Lantern.

  • Yeah, that’s Chris Pine. He’s still in the running apparently.

  • I’m intrigued by Bradley Cooper. I’ve only seen him in supporting roles in Yes Man and He’s Just Not Into You, but for some reason every time he pops up on screen, I feel like I’ve seen him a lot more than that. I guess for an up-and-comer, familiarity is a good thing. I don’t have much interest in The Hangover, but if it gets half-decent reviews, I might check it out just for him.

  • I saw Midnight Meat Train and enjoyed Ryuhei Kitamura’s direction and the outrageous final gore fight. The negatives of the movie were a few glaring genre cliches and Bradley Cooper being stale and forgettable.

This wont happen. Remember, comic book movies have big names these days. No one knows who this guy is (but film junkies of course).

Brian Austin Green would be better.

  • That Other Guy

I can really see Cooper as Green Lantern. He’s got the sarcasam that Hal has in the comics, and while Cooper isn’t old by any stretch, Hal Jordan is not supposed to be a really young guy, which is why I’ve always questioned the logic behind Chris Pine as GL.
