Your Dream Movie Marathon

marathon

The convenience of watching movies at home has spoiled me. For the most part I watch movies in snippets between assorted tasks or right before I go to bed. Surprisingly, writing for Film Junk is part of the problem, as I often feel guilty when watching a movie instead of creating new content. The only exception to this is when I go to the theatre and have no control over how I watch a movie. This past Sunday I decided to clear the day and watch Sergio Leone’s Man With No Name trilogy back-to-back with the crew from the Macho Movie Review, something I’ve always wanted to do.

Afterward, we got into a discussion about our dream movie marathons which got me curious as to what the fine visitors of Film Junk would choose. Your selections should be no fewer than three films, with no upper limit excepting how long you think you could stay awake, so say 24 hours worth. They needn’t be themed or all from the same franchise, though it helps. While you can certainly choose movies that you’ve already seen, you should avoid any combinations you’ve already partaken in. These should be your unfulfilled movie marathons.

Hmmm….this is an interesting one, I can think of a couple off the top of my head. I think I’ll limit them to 4 movies as you really start getting diminishing returns after awhile.

All 4 rambo films would be a good choice I think.

I also think there’s a lot of possibilities with actor based marathons. Heres a few ideas:

Steven Seagal marathon of Above the Law, Marked for Death, Out for Justice, and Under Siege

Arnie marathon of Terminator, Commando, Predator, and Total Recall

Finally, a Charles Bronson marathon of Red Sun, Mr. Majestyk, Death Wish, and Hard Times

  • I’ve seen two different groups of people fail at completing a LOTR Extended Edition Marathon. I’d like to do it one day. Basically, I’d like to fail in a way that they failed to fail.

For a more realistic and original marathon choice I’d go with Dario Argento’s Animal Trilogy, which consists of “The Cat o’ Nine Tails”, “Four Flies on Grey Velvet”, and “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage”.

  • I’ve done Lord of the Rings, in theatre too, the night Return of the King came out. But ROTK was the theatrical cut, not the extended cut. Last time I watched those movies was before my trip to New Zealand in December 07, but I watched them over the course of three nights, not all at once.

I’d like to watch my favourite baseball movies all in a row: The Natural, Fever Pitch, and Rookie of the Year. I might throw in the Rookie and Field of Dreams too, but the most movies I’ve ever watched in a day was four, during TIFF, and that was brutal. I fell asleep during two, and they were good movies. Hopefully the schedule will never line up that way again.

    Time of the Wolf (2002)
    12 monkeys (1995)
Mad Max: The Road Warrior (1982)
    Idiocracy (2006)
    Planet of the Apes (1968)
    Battle Royale (2000)
    Children of Men (2006)

Obviously trying to mix it up within the genre.

  • I wasn’t going to submit this post because I wasn’t sure of the response, but these selections are awesome. It makes me want to try a few on for size. Excepting Lord of the Rings, of course.

  • Even the original Star Wars trilogy is hard to get through the whole thing back to back to back. I’ve done it a couple of times, but it gets rough (even though I LOVE all three of them).

I recently did an Almodovar marathon. Not really back to back, though I’d be willing to take his 3 or 4 most acclaimed and watch them straight through.

Also a Dirty Harry marathon would be fun.

  • I’ll mix in different genres of movies so I don’t get bored quickly.

    01. Pineapple Express
    02. Thank You For Smoking
    03. Saw
    04. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
    05. Crank 2
    06. Superbad

There! Starts with a comedy. Ends with a comedy.

    Rififi
    Le Cercle Rouge
    Heat

  • They don’t make late-night television like they used to, David.

I love heist movies, yet I have never seen Heat. That’s some mighty fine company it’s keeping in your list, hoffamania. Is it that good?

  • David Munn & rus in chicago just blew genitals away with their pre-packaged trilogy ambushes.

  • How about a “B” Thomas Howell marathon:

    Tank
    The Hitcher
    Side Out
    Red Dawn

Let me get this straight… you operate a website called Film Junk, a blog about film, and film related happenings… and you, quote, “watch movies in snippets between assorted tasks or right before I go to bed.” So you’re an armchair-er then? Well, that’s the last time I peruse THIS bullshit site.

  • I do not operate Film Junk. That would be Sean. I’m just a hired hand. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Hey Zac, thanks for taking the time to comment on Film Junk!!!!!!
