Dragonball 1984 – 2009

Along with the train wreck that was Dragonball: Evolution came the inevitable question; could this be the end of Dragonball? Leave it to the birthplace of Existentialism to set the record straight by holding a funeral service for the beloved manga and anime franchise.

Now that it’s official, all we have left to look forward to are tears and memories. Twenty-five years is a good run, but with Dragonball finished forever it’s time to move on and enjoy other pursuits. What anime would you suggest to fill this hole in my heart, or do you join the millions of grieving otaku in denial?

  • The end of Dragonball? You do realize it ended years ago, right?

  • Dragonball: Evolution was released years ago? Why doesn’t anyone tell me these things?

    Th end of ‘Dragonball’, how?

Only fans and people semi-familiar with Dragonball even saw that trasheap “Evolution”. The rest of the movie-goer world didn’t even know that piece of shit existed.

There is still light in the future for it, if FOX ever let go of the rights.

  • “What anime would you suggest to fill this hole in my heart”

I didn’t get the feeling that you were a fan from your previous posts Wintle. I assumed you played the card of the outsider with some sarcasm to it. Anyways, I’d like to get an honest opinion from a, remotely so, fan like Sean perhaps.

I’ve enjoyed Dragon Ball for a big part of my youth but I barely finished the DBZ series. The Dragon Ball GT series didn’t appeal to me and I then moved on to better things. So yeah, I would’ve liked to see a decent Dragon Ball live-action movie but knew that it would never happen. So I guess Dragon Ball is dead to me since about 10 years.

  • Never was a big follower of the show. But wow … some fans!

    Great song choice btw.

  • Dragon Ball will never die. The merchandising has always been successful even when the manga and anime ended years ago.

Oh and Dragon Ball Kai should keep the franchise alive for a whole new generation of fans to come.

Thanks to Fox for fucking up yet another popular franchise.

Yeah, this movie sucked royally. As a fan, I enjoyed it but to me it could have been SOOO much more. I mean, it is next to impossible to make this series into a live action movie. What they need to do is make a CG Anime, similiar to what they did with Final Fantasy Advent Children. Now THAT would be awesome.

Dragonball is only over if the fans decide its over. A crappy movie will may not attract more fans but will not deter people from liking Dragonball who have for years, such as myself.

okay, i’ve been a realatively hardcore DB fan my whole life, i grew up watching Dragon Ball and Z religiously…and to be perfectly honest, i liked Dragon Ball Evolution. I think all the people that hated it passed their judgement way before seeing the movie, it wasn’t the best adaptation ever, but i thought the actors did the characters justice and it was a fun watch. Im not saying it was a great achievement, but there’s no way in hell anyone would be able to make a live action DB just the way the manga/cartoon were. I saw it with an open-mind and liked it enough to see it twice

Dragonball isn’t finished, appearently the sequel has been green lit, due to overseas success, but since it made really low gross domestically, they are planning for a reboot, a reboot with alot of changes to it.

I certainly hope this isn’t the end of Dragonball. Hopefully they will destroy the film and everyone will forget Evolution ever happened, leaving room for either:
    (a) A better movie in just a couple of years.
    (b) People to realize you can’t make an anime into anything good as live-action. The two forms of “film” are uncompromisingly different in styles.

As for something new to get hooked on, the first 150 (or so) episodes of unedited, original One Piece (subtitled, not dubbed :P) are friggen badass. The first few sagas are amazing. It becomes pretty trite after then, though, seeing as how they’re on episode #4,857,361… or something.

WTF man! Dragonball freggin owns every anime. The characters from this show is most known, globaly. So, that means that its known around the world, and most countries have never introduced animes like Naruto. Dragonball is the best.

Akira Toriyama rocks but should try to think of another storyline to continue their successful anime.
