This Week on DVD: The Wrestler, Frost/Nixon, Caprica

dvdapr21_09

Finally a decent DVD release week with a few things worth checking out. At the top of the list has to be Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, which may not have gotten a lot of love at the Oscars but is still the best movie of last year according to Film Junk. Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon also hits stores today, along with the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, Notorious, and Battlestar Galactica prequel pilot, Caprica. If you’re a fan of horror or sci-fi, you might want to look at J.T. Petty’s horror-western The Burrowers, Marc Caro’s sci-fi flick Dante 01, or the Hellraiser Puzzle Box, and quirky documentary lovers won’t want to miss Audience of One. Also out on Blu-ray this week: Sin City and the X-Men trilogy.

Might want to check out Border’s book stores if you live near one… they are not going to sell DVD/CDs anymore and have everything 50% off to clear out.

Some deals on amazon right now, too.

I’ll definitely be netflixing Sin City on bluray. Haven’t seen it yet.

  • Glendon

Am I the only one who thinks Mickey Rourke’s torso and head are facing forward at us in that dvd cover, and his thighs and legs are aimed backward away from us? Regardless, I hate that dvd cover, especially compared to the poster of him tired on the ropes.

  • Ian

I don’t like the cover for the DVD of The Wrestler. It looks like a superhero parody movie. And maybe in a way it is like that, horrah for irony but this was a good movie that deserves a thoughtful cover for people to judge it by.

  • Goon

^is that what it looks like in some places? the cover I have is him leaning on the ropes.

  • That cover above makes it look like the movie is about wrestling, and not a wrestler.

  • Goon: The cover you have (and I have) is the Canadian release of The Wrestler. It’s a much better cover, BUT….you might notice your disc is missing the 45 minute ‘In the Ring’ behind the scenes documentary which apparently was only included in the American release of the movie. Not sure if this applies to SD releases, but My BD is missing the feature and the digital copy. LAME.
